TAD-514 (430-0752) Installation Faxback Doc. # 6712 Select a location that is near a modular telephone jack and an AC outlet and away from normal activities. NOTE: If you do not have a modular phone jack, you can either update the wiring yourself or have the phone company update it for you. Radio Shack stores sell the jacks and adapters you need. The telephone company will charge you for the installation of the jacks. The telephone company will ask you for the USOC number of the jack to be installed. The number is RJ11C. CONNECTING TO THE PHONE LINE To use your TAD on a desk, table, or shelf, plug one end of the supplied telephone cord into the jack marked TO TEL.LINE on the back of the TAD. Then plug the other end into a modular phone jack. You can also connect an extension telephone to the TO TEL. jack on the back of the TAD. CONNECTING TO POWER Follow these steps to connect the supplied AC adapter to your TAD and to power. 1. Insert the adapter plug into the DC 9V jack. Caution: Use only the supplied UL-listed adapter with the TAD. Using any other type of adapter might damage the TAD. 2. Route the cable from the AC adapter through the strain-relief hook on the back of the TAD. 3. Plug the other end of the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet. The TAD beeps twice, and the message indicator flashes to indicate that no outgoing message (OGM) is recorded. INSTALLING THE CASSETTE TAPE Your TAD is supplied with an MC-30 tape (15 minutes recording time per side). You can buy additional tapes at your local Radio Shack store. Follow these steps to install the tape. 1. Take up any slack in the cassette tape by rotating the tape reel with a pencil. 2. Lift open the cassette compartment door and install the cassette in the cassette compartment with its full reel toward the back of the TAD and its open edge toward the right. 3. Close the cassette compartment door. NOTES: We recommend you not use an MC-90 microcassette tape. This type of tape is very thin and breaks easily. Replace the tape once a year, or more often if it's used frequently. (CJD/all-8/17/94)
