TAD-514 (430-0752) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6718 RECORDING YOUR OUTGOING MESSAGES (OGM) Before you can set the TAD to answer calls, you must record the outgoing message the caller hears when the TAD answers a call. The maximum outgoing message time is 3 minutes. NOTE: Before you change your outgoing message, play the incoming messages; otherwise, the TAD erases all messages while you change the OGM WARNING: To help protect your home or office from theft, do not tell callers that you are away. Instead, say that you cannot come to the phone. Follow these steps to record the outgoing announcement. 1. Press and hold ANNOUNCE for about 2 seconds until the message indicator lights steadily and you hear a long beep. 2. Record your message. Speak in a normal voice, about 12 to 15 inches from the TAD. 3. After you finish recording, press ANNOUNCE. 4. The TAD plays the OGM. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 5. After the TAD plays the OGM, the message indicator lights steadily and the TAD is set to answer calls. If you want to change the outgoing message, repeat steps 1 - 4. The new OGM replaces the old one. To check the OGM, if the TAD is set to answer calls (message indicator lights steadily), press ANNOUNCE twice. The OGM plays and the TAD is. automatically set to answer calls. RECORDING INCOMING MESSAGES To set the TAD to answer calls, press ANNOUNCE. When the TAD answers, the message indicator flashes, and then the TAD plays the outgoing message. After the loud beep, the TAD records the caller's message. When the caller hangs up, the TAD resets to answer the next call. If you do not want the TAD to answer calls, press ANNOUNCE so the message indicator turns off. NOTES: You cannot set the TAD to answer calls until you record an OGM. If the TAD sounds an error tone when you press ANNOUNCE or MESSAGE, record an OGM. The toll saving feature saves unnecessary toll charges when you call by long-distance to check your messages. If there are recorded messages, the TAD answers on the second ring. If there are no recorded messages, the TAD answers on the fourth ring. Hang up before the fourth ring to avoid toll charges. If the message is longer than two minutes or if the caller is silent for more than 7 seconds, the TAD automatically stops recording, disconnects the call, and resets to answer the next call. If the message tape is full, the TAD answers the phone after 9 rings and sounds 4 beeps. You can then operate the TAD remotely as described in "Remote Operation." Otherwise, the TAD disconnects automatically within 12 seconds. SCREENING CALLS If you want to screen incoming calls, let the TAD answer the call. Adjust VOLUME on the TAD's right side to a comfortable level. When the caller starts speaking, you can let the TAD record the message. Or, to talk to the caller, pick up the handset of the phone connected to the TAD and press MESSAGE. The TAD stops recording when you press MESSAGE and resets to receive the next call.
