TAD-514 (430-0752) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 6719 DEMAGNETIZING Demagnetize the record/play head after about every 10 hours of use. This helps prevent distorted recordings and a reduction in high frequency response. Demagnetizers are available of your local Radio Shack store. CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS CAUTION: Never touch the tape heads with your fingers or any metal object. Remove the cassette tape. Then use a cotton swab dipped in denatured alcohol to gently clean the capstan, record/play head, and pinch roller. Tape head cleaning supplies are available at your local Radio Shack store. CARING FOR THE TAD Your Radio Shack TAD-514 Answering System is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the TAD so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the TAD dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that corrode the electronic circuits. Handle the TAD gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage its circuit boards and case and can cause it to work improperly. Use and store the TAD only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, and distort or melt plastic parts. Keep the TAD away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Occasionally wipe the TAD with a damp cloth to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the TAD. Modifying or tampering with your TAD's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your TAD is not operating as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW In the unlikely event that the TAD causes problems on the telephone line, the telephone company can temporarily discontinue your service. If this happens, the telephone company notifies you and gives you a chance to correct the problem. Also, the telephone company can make changes to its lines or equipment that could affect the TAD's operation. The telephone company attempts to notify you in writing in advance so you can take the necessary steps to prevent interruption of your telephone service. LIGHTNING Your TAD has built-in protection circuits to reduce the risk of damage from surges in telephone and power line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed the FCC requirements. However, lightning striking the telephone or power line is not common. Nevertheless, if you live in an area that has frequent electrical storms, we suggest that you unplug your TAD during storms to reduce the possibility of damage. (CJD/all-8/17/94)
