ET-177 (430-0583) Connecting the Phone Faxback Doc. # 6728 CONNECTING THE PHONE ON A FLAT SURFACE Follow these steps to connect your phone to use it on a flat surface. 1. Plug the supplied phone cord into the jack on the back of the phone. 2. Plug the other end of the cord into a modular phone jack. 3. Plug one end of the coiled cord into the jack on the left side of the phone's base. Plug the other end into the jack on the handset. WALL PLATE MOUNTING Follow these steps to mount the phone on an existing wall plate. 1. Plug one end of a short modular cord (Cat. No. 279-390) into the jack on the back of the phone. 2. Guide the cord through the groove on the bottom of the telephone. Put any excess cord in the opening on the bottom of the phone. 3. Plug the other end of the modular cord into the jack on the wall plate. 4. Align the phone's keyhole slots with the wall plate studs and slide the phone downward. 5. Slide the clip up and out of its retaining slot in the base. Position it so the tab points up. Slide the clip back into its slot. 6. Plug one end of the coiled cord into the jack on the left side of the phone's base. Plug the other end into the jack on the handset. 7. Hang the handset on the handset holder. DIRECT WALL MOUNTING Follow these steps to mount the phone directly on the wall. 1. Drill two holes 3 15/16 inches (100 mm) apart. 2. Thread a screw (not supplied) into each hole, letting the heads extend 3/16 inches (5 mm). 3. Plug one end of a modular line cord (not supplied) into the jack on the back of the telephone. (Your local Radio Shack store carries a selection of UL-listed modular line cords.) Route the cord downward through the groove in the bottom of the phone's base so the base can fit flush against the wall. Then plug the cord's other end into your telephone line jack. 4. Align the two keyhole slots on the bottom of the telephone with the two screw-heads and slide the telephone down onto the screw-heads to secure it in place. 5. Slide the clip up and out of its retaining slot in the base. Position it so the tab points up. Slide the clip back into its slot. 6. Hang the handset on the handset holder. SETTING THE RINGER SWITCH The OFF*LO*HI ringer switch enables you to set the electronic ringer at a comfortable sound level. If you don't want to be interrupted, set the switch to OFF. The telephone does not ring, but you can still make outgoing calls. If you hear an extension phone ringing, you can answer incoming calls. SETTING THE TONE/PULSE SWITCH Set TONE*PULSE for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which type of service you have, follow these steps. 1. Set TONE*PULSE to TONE 2. Lift the handset and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number other than 0. If the dial tone stops, you have touchtone service. Leave TONE*PULSE set to TONE. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. Set TONE*PULSE to PULSE. Note: The # button does not function in the pulse mode. (br/all-6/29/94)
