Rock Runner/Car Crusher (600-4133) Installation Faxback Doc. # 6735 INSTALLING THE ANTENNA Attaching the Transmitter's Antenna For consistent operation and maximum operating range, attach the antenna to the transmitter by screwing the threaded end into the transmitter's antenna connector. Installing the Vehicle's Antenna Tube The antenna tube holds up the antenna wire for the best reception and range. Route the antenna wire's loose end through the tube. Then insert the tube securely into the vehicle's tube holder. INSTALLING THE TRANSMITTER'S BATTERIES To power the transmitter, use six AA alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. Do not use general purpose batteries. 1. Set the transmitter's ON/OFF switch to OFF. 2. Slide off the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow. 3. Install six fresh AA batteries, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 4. Replace the cover so it snaps into place. Caution: If you do not plan to use the vehicle for a week or more, remove and store the batteries. Batteries can leak damaging chemicals. If the vehicle runs slowly or not at all, replace the batteries. USING THE BATTERY PACK To power the vehicle, use a 7.2-volt rechargeable battery pack (Cat. No. 23-230). Before you use the battery pack, you must charge it using a battery-pack charger (Cat. No. 23-241). Note: Continuous operation time with a fully charged battery pack is usually about 15 minutes. If you want to run your vehicle for longer periods, we suggest you buy an extra battery pack so you can charge one while you use the other. Caution: To avoid burning yourself, let the motor cool for at least 20 minutes before you change battery packs. Charging the Battery Pack 1. Attach the battery pack's white plastic connector to the charger's matching connector. Do not force them together. They fit together in only one way. 2. Plug the charger into a standard AC outlet. The battery pack starts to charge. 3. Charge the battery pack for 12 to 14 hours. 4. When you finish charging the battery pack, unplug the charger from the AC outlet. Caution: To prevent damage to the battery pack and charger, be sure to unplug the charger from the AC outlet before removing the battery pack. 5. Disconnect the battery pack from the charger by pressing the latch lever on the charger's connector and disconnecting the battery pack's connector. Cautions: Do not charge the battery pack while it is in the vehicle. Do not pull on the connectors' wires when you disconnect the charger from the battery pack. Doing so could damage the battery pack or charger. Do not charge the battery pack immediately after using the vehicle. Allow the battery pack to cool first. Do not overcharge the battery pack. Doing so could damage it. After you recharge the battery pack for 12 to 14 hours, disconnect it from the charger. Use only the recommended battery pack and charger. Do not use the battery charger in wet or hot areas. Use the charger in areas where there is free air flow. The charger and battery pack product heat during charging. Do not use the charger as a direct power source for any device. At the end of the battery pack's useful life, it must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curb-side collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. Installing the Battery Pack 1. Set the vehicle's ON/OFF switch to OFF. 2. Lift the battery compartment lid's tab, located on the bottom of the vehicle, and slide the cover in the direction of the arrow. Then fold back the cover. 3. Insert the battery pack with the connector side down, away from the vehicle's connector. 4. Attach the battery pack's connector to the vehicle's connector. Be sure the connectors match properly. They fit together only one way. Note: Be sure the wires do not touch the back tires. 5. Replace the battery compartment lid. To remove the battery back, open the lid as described in Step 2. Then slide the pack to the connector side and lift the opposite side of the battery pack to unplug it. Note: If the vehicle loses power or does not respond to the transmitter, recharge the battery pack. ADJUSTING THE TRIM LEVERS The neutral trim lever on the transmitter (next to the speed control) lets you adjust the speed control so the vehicle stops completely when you release the control. The steering trim lever (next to the steering control) lets you adjust the steering control so the vehicle goes straight when you release the control. Follow these steps to adjust the trim levels. 1. Place the vehicle on a box or a wooden block so the tires do not touch the ground. Note: To ensure a precise adjustment, do not touch the tires during the adjustment procedure. 2. Set the ON/OFF switches on the transmitter and the vehicle to ON. 3. If the tires move, adjust the neutral trim lever until the tires stop. If the front angle left or right, adjust the steering trim lever so they point directly forward. Note: You might have to readjust the steering trim lever after you use the vehicle a few times. CHANGING THE BODY You can easily transform your Rock Runner into a Car Crusher by changing the body. Follow these steps to change the body: 1. Remove the antenna tube. 2. Remove one snap-pin from the front hood and set it aside to avoid losing it. 3. Remove the two snap-pins from the platform and set them aside to avoid losing them. 4. Lift the body upward to remove it. 5. Thread the wire antenna through the hole on the roof of the car Crusher's body. 6. Place the Car Crusher body over the chassis and secure it with the pins you removed in Steps 1 and 2. 7. Install the antenna tube. (LB/all-08/17/94)
