Tsauro-Z (600-4131) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 6756 ATTACHING THE TRANSMITTER'S ANTENNA To insure consistent operation and maximum operating range, tightly screw the antenna's threaded end into the transmitter's antenna connector. INSTALLING THE VEHICLE'S ANTENNA TUBE The antenna tube holds up the antenna wire for the best reception and range. Route the antenna wire's loose end through the tube. Then insert the tube securely into the vehicle's tube holder. INSTALLING BATTERIES NOTES: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Never leave dead or weak batteries in the transmitter or the vehicle. If you do not plan to use the vehicle for a week or more, remove and store the batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries. Dispose of batteries properly. Do not bury or burn them. IN THE TRANSMITTER 1. Set the transmitter's POWER ON/OFF switch to OFF. 2. Slide the battery compartment cover off in the direction of the arrow. 3. Install six fresh AA batteries, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment. 4. Replace the cover so it snaps into place. IN THE VEHICLE 1. Set the vehicle's ON/OFF switch to OFF. 2. Lift the tab on the battery compartment lid (located on the bottom of the vehicle) and slide the lid back. Then swing the lid back on its hinge. 3. Install four fresh AA batteries, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and-) marked in the compartment. 4. Replace the cover so it snaps into place. NOTE: If the vehicle does not operate normally or the range decreases, replace all four batteries. Never mix old and new batteries. USING THE BATTERY PACK You need a 7.2-volt rechargeable battery pack (Cat. No. 23-230, not included) to power the vehicle. Before you use the battery pack, use a battery-pack charger (Cat. No. 23-241, not included) to charge it. The local Radio Shack store sells the proper battery pack and charger. CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK NOTE: If you want to run the vehicle for a long period of time, we suggest you buy an extra battery pack, so you can charge one while you use the other. To protect the motor, let it cool for at least 20 minutes before you change the battery packs. 1. Attach the battery pack's white plastic connector to the charger's matching connector. Do not force them together. They fit together only one way. 2. Plug the charger into a standard AC outlet. The battery pack starts to charge. 3. Charge the battery pack for 12 to 14 hours. 4. When you finish charging the battery pack, unplug the charger from the AC outlet. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the battery pack and charger, be sure to unplug the charger from the AC outlet before disconnecting the battery pack. 5. Disconnect the battery pack from the charger by pressing the latch lever on the charger's connector and disconnecting the battery pack's connector. CAUTIONS: When you disconnect the battery pack from the charger, do not pull on the connector's wires or you might damage the battery pack. Do not charge the battery pack immediately after you use the vehicle. Allow the battery pack to cool first. Do not overcharge the battery pack. Doing so could damage it. After you recharge the battery pack (12 to 14 hours), disconnect it from the charger. Use only the recommended battery pack and charger. Do not use the battery charger in wet or hot areas. Do not charge the battery pack while it is in the vehicle. Use the charger in areas where there is free air flow. The charger and battery pack produce heat during charging. Do not use the charger as a direct power source. INSTALLING THE BATTERY PACK 1. Set the vehicle's ON/OFF switch to OFF. 2. Lift the tab on the battery compartment lid and slide the lid back. Then swing the lid back on its hinge. 3. Place the battery pack between the battery compartment and the back of the vehicle. The battery pack's connector must be on the same side as the vehicle's matching connector. 4. Attach the battery pack's connector to the vehicle's connector. Be sure the connectors match properly. They fit together only one way. Also, be sure the wires do not touch the back tires. 5. Replace the lid. NOTES: If the vehicle loses power, recharge the battery pack. At the end of the battery pack's useful life, it must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact the local county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curb-side collection, drop-off boxes at retailer, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. ADJUSTING THE TRIM LEVERS Neutral Trim Lever The neutral trim lever on the transmitter (next to the speed control) lets you fine-tune the speed control so the vehicle stops completely when you release the control. STEERING TRIM LEVER The steering trim lever (next to the steering control) lets you fine-tune the steering control so the vehicle goes straight when you release the control. ADJUSTING THE TRIM LEVERS 1. Place the vehicle on a box or a wooden block so the tires do not touch the ground. NOTE: To ensure a precise adjustment, do not touch the tires during the adjustment procedure. 2. Set the ON/OFF switches on the transmitter and the vehicle to ON. 3. If the tires rotate, adjust the neutral trim lever until the tires stop. 4. If the front tires angle left or right, adjust the steering trim lever so they point directly forward. NOTE: You might have to readjust the steering trim lever after you use the vehicle a few times. (CJD/all-8/18/94)
