PROGRAMMING THE TUNER MEMORY You can program the tuner's memory so when you press CHANNEL down arrow or up arrow the TV scans only the channels used in your area. 1. Press TV/CATV on the remote control to select the type of signal you receive. If you are using an antenna, select TV; if you have cable, press TV/CATV until STD, HRC or IRC shows on the display for the cable service type. NOTE: STD is used by most cable systems. If the STD setting does not work with your TV, try the other two settings and/or check with your cable service provider. 2. Press AUTO MEMO on the remote control. The TV's tuner scans the entire range of the selected band (TV or CATV) and memorizes all the active channels in your area. After scanning all the channels, the tuner stops on the previously selected channel and SKIP appears on the screen momentarily to indicate the TV skipped all inactive channels. 3. Press either CHANNEL up arrow or down arrow to check the channels stored in the memory. NOTES: The on-screen channel is color coded and displays in either red or green. Green indicates a channel that is active or programmed in memory. Red indicates a channel that is inactive or has not been programmed. If there are no channels stored in memory, you can scan for any active channels using CHANNEL down arrow or up arrow. You can also select any active channel directly using the remote control's number buttons. To change channels more quickly when using the number buttons, precede one-digit channel numbers with a zero (02, 03, 04 and so on). To select a channel over 99, select the CATV mode, press 100, and then enter the channel number. CONNECTING AN EARPHONE The earphone jack allows you to connect an earphone (such as Cat. No. 33-175, not supplied) with a 1/8-inch mini-plug so you can listen to the TV privately without disturbing others. Simply insert the earphone into the jack on the left side of the TV. This automatically mutes the TV's speaker. Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use an earphone. Set the TV's volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. USING THE TV AS AN AUDIO/VIDEO MONITOR Follow these steps to use the TV as a color monitor when you connect an audio/video device. 1. Turn on the TV. 2. Turn on and start the audio/video device. 3. Press TV/VIDEO on the remote control to select which input signal you view. VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 2 appears briefly on the screen. (CJD/all-6/30/94)
