Blue Shark (600-4129) Battery Faxback Doc. # 6779 INSTALLING THE TRANSMITTER'S BATTERIES The transmitter requires six AA batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. 1. Set the TRANSMITTER'S ON/OFF switch to OFF. 2. Press down on the arrows and slide the battery compartment cover off in the direction they indicate. 3. Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 4. Replace the cover. Notes: If the racer's operation becomes erratic or its range decreases, replace the batteries. If you do not plan to use the transmitter for a week or more, remove and store the batteries. USING THE BATTERY PACK A rechargeable 9.6-volt, 600 mAh battery pack (Cat. No. 23-229) powers the racer's motor. Before you use the battery pack, you must charge it with a battery charger (Cat. No. 23-240). Follow the charger's directions to charge the battery pack. If you want to run the racer for extended periods of time, we suggest you buy extra battery packs. You can charge one pack while you use another. CAUTION: To protect the racer's motor, let it cool for at least 20 minutes after you use up a battery pack. CHARGING SAFETY HINTS Don't charge a battery pack immediately after use (while it is still hot). Allow it to cool first. Use only the suggested battery pack and charger. Do not use the battery charger in wet or hot areas. Do not charge the battery pack while it is in the racer. At the end of the battery pack's useful life, it must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact the local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curb-side collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. INSTALLING THE BATTERY PACK Follow these steps to install the racer's battery pack. 1. Set the racer's ON/OFF switch to OFF. 2. Turn the battery compartment cover's latch, counterclockwise, slide the cover in the direction of the arrow, then lift the cover. 3. Insert the battery pack into the compartment. The battery pack's connector must be on the same side as the racer's matching connector. 4. Close the battery compartment cover, slide it in the direction shown until it snaps, then turn the latch clockwise to lock it. 5. Attach the battery pack's connector to the racer's connector as shown. Be sure the connectors match. They easily go together only one way. NOTE: When the vehicle loses power or does not respond to the transmitter, recharge the battery pack. The neutral trim lever (next to the speed control) lets you fine-tune the speed control so the racer completely stops when you release the speed control to its center position. The steering trim lever (next to the steering control) lets you fine-tune the steering so the racer drives in a straight line when you set the steering control to its center position. Follow these steps to adjust the trim levers. 1. Place the racer on a block or turn it over so the tires do not touch the ground. NOTE: Do not touch the tires during this adjustment. 2. Set ON/OFF on the transmitter and racer to ON. 3. If the rear tires move, adjust the neutral trim lever until the tires stop. 4. If the front tires angle left or right, adjust the steering trim lever so they point directly forward. NOTE: You might have to further fine-tune the steering trim lever after using the racer for a while. (CJD/all-8/18/94)
