SCP-60 (140-1200) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6885 LISTENING TO YOUR SCP-60 You can listen to your SCP-60 by connecting speakers or stereo headphones. Connecting Speakers To listen to your SCP-60 through speakers, plug the speakers (such as amplified or non-amplified speakers, not supplied) into the PHONES jack using the speakers' built-in Y cable. Radio Shack carries a large selection of amplified speakers to choose from. Connecting Headphones For private listening, plug a pair of stereo headphones with a 1/8 --inch plug (such as Cat. No. 33-1021, not supplied) into the cassette player's PHONES jack. Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. Traffic Safety Do not wear headphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some headphones are designed to let you hear some outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard. USING THE RADIO PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Set TAPE (RADIO OFF)/RADIO to RADIO to turn on the radio. 2. Press AM/FM until the desired band (AM or FM) appears on the display. 3. Set FM ST./MONO to FM ST. for stereo sound on FM stations. FM STEREO appears on the display during FM stereo reception. 4. Press TUNING UP/DOWN to select the desired radio station. Notes: For the best FM reception, fully uncoil the headphones' or speaker's cord (the cord is the FM antenna). If the FM stereo reception is poor or noisy, set FM-ST./FM MONO to FM/MONO. The sound is no longer in stereo, but the FM reception improves. For the best AM reception, move the SCP-60 (the AM antenna is built-in). 5. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 6. To turn off the radio, set TAPE (RADIO OFF)/RADIO to TAPE (RADIO Off). Storing Radio Stations in Memory You can store up to 10 radio stations (such as 10 FM, 10 AM, or some AM and some FM stations together totaling up to 10) in memory. Close the cassette compartment door. Playing a Cassette Tape After you load a cassette, follow these steps to play the tape. 1. Set TAPE (Radio Off)/RADIO to TAPE (RADIO OFF). 2. The tape continuously changes direction after playing to the end of each side until you press STOP to stop play. To fast-forward or rewind the cassette tape, press <>. The button locks down so you must press STOP to stop the fast forward or rewind until it reaches the end. After repeated play, a cassette tape might get tightly wound. This might cause high-pitched squeaks during play or stretch the tape. To loosen the tape, fast-forward then rewind the tape. If the problem persists, repeat this procedure. 4. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 5. Press STOP to stop play. SETTING/USING THE ALARM You can set the SCP-60 to automatically sound a beeping alarm at a preset time.
