TRC-223 (210-1641) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6914 Follow these steps to operate your CB: 1. Turn on the power by turning VOLUME clockwise. 2. Set CHANNEL to A, B, or C. Your CB comes with CB Channel 14 crystals installed in Channel A. 3. If you have not connected an external antenna, fully extend the tele- scoping antenna and hold the CB so that the antenna is vertical. Note: If you do not fully extend the antenna, the CB's efficiency is reduced. 4. To transmit, press and hold PUSH TO TALK. Then, hold your CB about 3 inches from your mouth and speak slowly in a normal tone of voice. Note: A built-in automatic modulation circuit adjusts the microphone's sensitivity to allow for a wide variety of voice levels. 5. To receive a message, release PUSH TO TALK. 6. Adjust VOLUME for a comfortable listening level. 7. Adjust SQUELCH to cut out the background noise. To do this, wait until there is no signal on the channel. Then, slowly turn SQUELCH clockwise until the background noise stops. Note: Do not turn SQUELCH too far clockwise because you might cut out weak signals, too. OPERATIONAL HINTS Your CB's range varies depending on conditions. Factors such as antenna type and position, terrain, and battery condition all affect range. Buildings absorb transmitted signals and, if they contain metal, might completely block them. Trees and heavy cloud formations shave a similar effect, through not as severe. If you are near a lake or the ocean, you might get excellent range. To ensure maximum range, always keep batteries fully charged in your CB. As the voltage decreases it directly affects the range.
