Hi-Pwr Digital Cassette (120-1994) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6938 When you listen to the radio or the cassette player, adjust the following controls to suite your listening preferences: VOL - rotate VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo and increase the volume. Warning: To prevent possible ear injury and hearing loss, do not listen at high volume levels. Slowly increase the volume to a comfortable listening level. BAL - pull out and adjust BAL for the desired balance between the left and right speakers. TONE - adjust TONE to increase or decrease the tone response for the best sound. FADER - adjust FADER for the desired balance between the front and rear speakers. LISTENING TO THE RADIO 1. Turn on your vehicle's ignition. Turn VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. If a cassette tape is in the cassette player, press UP ARROW UNDERLINED with TWO RIGHT ARROWS. 2. Press BAND to select the desired band (FM1, FM2, or FM3 for the FM band; AM1 or AM2 for the AM band). Note: Each time you press band, the radio automatically tunes to the last station you selected in that band. 3. Tune to the desired station in one of the following ways: Manual Tuning: Press RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW to tune to the next highest strong station or LEFT ARROW to tune to the next lower strong station. Auto Seek Tuning: Press and hold RIGHT ARROW to tune to the next highest strong station or LEFT ARROW to tune to the next lower strong station. Notes: * Press LOC to receive only clear, strong stations. * You can also use memory tuning to select a station. * STEREO appears on the display when you tune to an FM stereo signal (if you set ST/MO for stereo reception). * During auto seek tuning, if the stereo does not find a strong station and you have not pressed LOC, the stereo seeks through the band a second time and stops on weaker stations. * Normally, the stereo automatically adjusts for mono or stereo receptions as you tune to different FM stations. To improve reception of a weak FM stereo broadcast, press ST/MO so the display shows MO. You receive the broadcast in mono, but reception improves. 4. Adjust VOL, TONE, BAL, and FADER to suit your listening preferences. 5. To turn off the stereo, turn VOL counterclockwise until it clicks. Memory Tuning Your radio has two AM memory groups (AM1 and AM2) and three FM groups (FM1, FM2, and FM3). You can store up to six stations in each memory group for a total of 12 AM and 18 FM stations. Automatically Storing Stations 1. Turn on the stereo. 2. Press BAND to select the desired band and memory group. For example, select AM1 to store the first group of AM stations. 3. To select only local stations, press LOC so LOC appears on the display. 4. Use either tuning method (manual or auto seek) to tune to a position just before the first station you want to store into memory. 5. Press and hold down MS for 3 seconds. The stereo scans the selected band and automatically stores the next strong station and five strong stations after it. As the stations are stored, the memory location and frequency for each one appear briefly on the display. After the stereo stores all six stations into memory, it scans all six stored stations. The channel number flashes and the stereo tunes to each station for 5 seconds. Press a station location number to stop scanning. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 to store stations into other memory groups. Manually Storing Stations Follow these steps to manually store a station into memory. 1. Rotate VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. 2. Press BAND to select the band and memory group. For example, select AM1 to store the first group of AM stations 3. Use either tuning method (manual or auto seek) to tune to the station you want to store into memory. 4. Press and hold down the desired memory location number until the sound momentarily mutes. The memory location number and the station's frequency appear on the display for each stored station. Scanning Stored Stations Press Band until the desired band/memory group appears Briefly press MS to scan the stored stations in that group. The radio scans the stored stations, pausing for 5 seconds at each station. Note: Do not hold down the MS button. This sets the radio to automatically store stations into memory. When the radio pauses at each station you want to listen to, press MS again. (smm 03/04/94)
