Caller ID System 320 (430-0957) Installation Faxback Doc. # 7019 INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERIES The system requires four AAA batteries for power. For the longest operation, we recommend you use alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555). CAUTION: Have the fresh batteries on hand before you begin battery replacement. You must install the new batteries within 2 minutes after removing the old ones, otherwise, you might lose the information stored in the system. NOTE: When BATT LOW appears on the display or the display dims, replace the batteries. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals which can damage electronic circuits. Follow these steps to install or replace the batteries. 1. Unplug the telephone line from the system and wait until the display dims. 2. Remove the screw securing the battery cover. 3. Lift off the battery compartment cover. 4. Remove and discard the old batteries. CAUTION: Do not press any buttons after you remove the old batteries. Doing so can erase all information from the system. 5. Place the fresh batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. CAUTION: Do not force the batteries into the compartment. 6. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw. The system automatically tests the batteries when it receives each new call. If the batteries are weak, BATT LOW appears on the display. RESETTING THE SYSTEM Before you use the system the first time, or to clear all names, phone numbers, and dates from the system at any time, use a pointed object such as a ball point pen to press RESET on the back of the system. MOUNTING THE SYSTEM You can place the system directly on a desk, table, or shelf using the stand to tilt the system for viewing. Or you can follow these steps to mount the system on a wall. 1. Press the two latches to remove the detachable stand. 2. Drill two holes 2 3/8" apart into the wall. Thread two screws with heads that fit in the system's keyhold slots into the wall. The screws should extend 1/8" from the wall. NOTE: Do not overtighten the screws. 3. Align the keyholes on the back of the system with the two screws and slide the system down to secure it to the wall. CONNECTING TO THE PHONE LINE The caller ID system connects to the modular wall jack and your telephone. If your telephone wiring does not have a modular wall jack, you can update the wiring yourself. Radio Shack stores sell the jacks and adapters necessary to convert from older wiring methods to modular wiring. Or, you can have the telephone company update your telephone wiring for you. NOTES: -The telephone company charges to install the necessary jacks. -The telephone company might ask you for the USOC number of the jacks to be installed. This number is RJ11C. 1. Unplug the telephone line chord from your telephone's phone jack and plug it into the systems TEL.LINE jack. 2. Plug the supplied line cord into the system's PHONE jack. 3. Plug the supplied line cord's other end into the telephone's phone jack. (smc-02/22/94)
