SCP-57 (140-1097) Battery Faxback Doc. # 7094 CONNECTING TO POWER One can power the SCP-57 from two AA batteries, a standard AC outlet using an AC adapter, or a vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket using a DC adapter. BATTERY POWER To power the SCP-57 from internal batteries, two AA batteries are required. For best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. Rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries can also be used, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-125. These batteries and a battery charger Cat. No. 23-125. The batteries and a battery charger, Cat. No. 23-133 are available at the local Radio Shack store. CAUTION: Do not mix different types of batteries. Follow these steps to install batteries. 1. Open the battery compartment cover by pressing down on the cover, sliding it in the direction of the arrow, and lifting it up. 2. Insert the batteries into the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (- and +) marked on the back of the SCP-57. NOTE: To remove the batteries, push the left battery to the left while lifting out the right battery first. 3. Close the cover. NOTE: If the BATT (battery) indicator becomes dim during operation or does not light when the SCP-57 is turned on, replace both batteries. USING AC POWER To power the SCP-57 from an AC outlet, a AC adapter is required, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1654. CAUTIONS: A adapter that supplies 3 volts DC power and delivers at least 300 milliamps must be used. It's center tip must be set to negative, and it's plug must properly fit the SCP-57's DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the SCP-57 or the adapter. Be sure the adapter to the SCP-57 is connected before plugging it into the AC outlet, and that it the AC adapter is unplugged from the AC outlet before it is unplugged from the SCP-57. Follow these steps to power the SCP-57 from AC power. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Connect the black tipped barrel plug to the adapter so it reads TIP NEG. 3. Insert the barrel plug into the SCP-57's DC 3V jack. 4. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. NOTE: Connecting the AC adapter automatically disconnects the internal batteries. USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER To power the SCP-57 from a vehicle's battery power, a DC adapter is needed, such as Radio Shack's Cat. No. 270-1560A. CAUTIONS: The vehicle must have a 12-volt, negative-ground electrical system. An adapter that supplies 3-volts DC power and delivers at least 300 milliamps must be used. It's center tip must be set to negative, and it's plug must properly fit the SCP-57's DC 3V jack. Be sure the plug for the adapter is plugged into the SCP-57 before it is plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket, and that the adapter is unplugged from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the SCP-57. Follow these steps to power the SCP-57 from the vehicle's battery power. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Plug the orange-tipped barrel plug into the adapter's cord with the tip set to negative (-). 3. Insert the barrel plug into the SCP-57's DC3V jack. 4. Plug the other end of the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. (smc-03/01/94)
