AM/FM Clock Radio (120-1601) Battery Faxback Doc. # 7108 REMOVING THE PACKING SLIP Before setting the clocks time, the packing slip must be removed. 1. Slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow to remove it. 2. Remove the packing slip by pulling it away from the clock radio. 3. Replace the cover. The radio can be operated by using internal batteries, AC power, or a vehicle's battery. You can use four AA batteries to power the radio. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover. 2. Install four AA batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked in the battery compartment. Place the batteries over the black ribbon so they can be easily removed later. 3. Replace the cover. CAUTIONS: Remove the batteries if they will not be used to power the radio for a week or more. Do not leave weak or old batteries in the clock radio. Weak, aging batteries can leak chemicals that might damage the radio. AC POWER The radio can be powered from a standard AC outlet with an adapter (not supplied) such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1650A. CAUTION: An AC adapter that supplies 6 volts and delivers at least 150 milliamps must be used. It's center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the radio's DC JACK. Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1650A meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the radio or the adapter. 1. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the radio's DC JACK. 2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. NOTE: Connecting the adapter automatically disconnects the internal batteries. VEHICLE BATTERY POWER The radio can be powered from the vehicle's battery with an adapter (not supplied) such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 270-1560. CAUTIONS: The vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. A DC adapter that supplies 6 volts and delivers at least 150 milliamps. It's center tip must be set to negative and it's plug must correctly fit the radio's DC JACK. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the radio or the adapter. Be sure that the adapter is connected to the radio before it is connected to the cigarette-lighter socket and that the adapter is disconnected from the cigarette-lighter socket before it is disconnected from the radio. Otherwise, the unconnected plug might touch some metal in the vehicle and damage the adapter or the vehicle's electrical system. 1. Set the adapter's voltage to 6V. 2. Insert the adapter's plug into the radio's DC JACK. 3. Plug the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. NOTE: Connecting the adapter automatically disconnects the internal batteries. REPLACING THE CLOCK BATTERY The clock is powered by one G13A button-cell battery such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-150. When the display dims, replace the battery. 1. Slide the battery compartment cover off the back of the radio. 2. Remove the four AA batteries (which power the radio) to expose the button battery compartment. 3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw holding the battery bar. 4. Install a new battery with the positive (+) side up. 5. Secure the battery bar with the screw. 6. Replace the four AA batteries and the battery compartment cover. NOTE: If the old clock battery is not replaced in one (1) minute, reset the time. WARNINGS: Never allow children to play with any battery. Swallowing a battery cell can be fatal. Do not dispose of any battery in fire. (smc/all-06/06/94)
