The Radio Shack TAD-550 is a high quality telephone answering device
(TAD) with touch-tone remote control.  The TAD-550 has Call Screen Plus,
which lets you set the TAD so it rings only when callers enter a special
code.  This gives you extra privacy from unwanted calls.  The TAD-550's
digitally synthesized voice announces the time, day, and date of each
message you receive.

The answering system also includes these features:

                       LCD Display - shows indicators such as the time and
                                     the number of recorded messages.

Remote Operation and Security Code - lets you operate the TAD from any
                                     touch-tone phone (or rotary phone
                                     with a pocket tone dialer).  The
                                     security code helps prevent
                                     unauthorized remote operation.

                    Two-Way Record - lets you record phone conversations.

                       Memo Record - lets you leave memos for yourself or
                                     others.

                        Toll Saver - lets you avoid unnecessary toll
                                     charges when you check your
                                     messages by long-distance.

           Phone Pick-Up Detection - automatically stops the TAD if you
                                     answer a call after the TAD answers.

                      Room Monitor - lets you listen from a remote phone
                                     to the room where you installed the
                                     TAD.

                     Remote On/Off - lets you turn the TAD on or Off by
                                     remote.

               Erase/Rewind Button - lets you quickly erase old incoming
                                     messages.

                   Call Screening - lets you listen as a caller leaves a
                                     message so you can decide whether or
                                     not to answer the call.

       Two Maximum Message Lengths - lets you select 30 seconds or 3
                                     minutes as the maximum incoming
                                     message length.

           Switchable Ring Numbers - lets you set the TAD to answer after
                                     about two or four rings.

                     Memory Backup - protects memory information, such as
                                     the message count, in case of a power
                                     failure.

                  Message Grouping - saves you from having to listen to
                                     messages you have already heard.

                             Timer - sets the TAD to automatically start
                                     and stop answering calls at specified
                                     times.

         Call and Message Counters - show you how many calls the TAD
                                     answered and how many messages were
                                     left.

To take advantage of all the TAD's features, we recommend that you read
this manual completely before you use the TAD.
