TAD-550 (430-0714) Basic Operation Faxback Doc. # 7142 SETTING THE TAD TO ANSWER CALLS Press ANSWER to set the TAD to answer calls and record callers' messages. The TAD says, "Answer calls. Record messages" and ANSWER appears on the display. ANSWER flashes rapidly on the display while the TAD records a message or performs remote functions. Using the Announcement-Only Mode You can set your TAD to the announcement-only mode so it does not record caller's messages. This is ideal for providing meeting notices and similar information. To set the TAD to the announcement only mode, set the TAD to answer calls as described in "Setting the TAD to answer calls." With ANSWER showing on the display, press ANSWER so ANNOUNCE flashes on the display, and the TAD says, "Answer calls, play announcement." Then ANNOUNCE appears steadily on the display. To return to the answer-record mode, press ANSWER again. SCREENING CALLS Your TAD lets you listen as callers leave a message. If you want to speak to the caller, pick up any phone on the same line as the TAD and begin speaking. The TAD automatically resets to answer the next call. If you do not want to speak to the caller, let the TAD finish recording the caller's message. Setting Call Screen Plus Call Screen Plus gives you additional privacy from unwanted calls. When this feature is activated, the TAD rings only if a caller enters the call screen code. Note: Phones connected to the same line as the TAD still ring. When the ringer sounds, you can pick up the phone and talk as usual. Or, if you do not want to speak to the caller, you can let the TAD record the caller's message. To activate Call Screen Plus, press ANSWER to enter the answer mode. Then press CALL SCREEN PLUS. The CALL SCREEN PLUS. The CALL SCREEN PLUS indicator lights and the TAD says, "Call Screen Plus on." Using Call Screen Plus When Call Screen Plus is activated, callers can access the TAD as follows. 1. Call the TAD. During the outgoing announcement, press *. The TAD says, "Enter code." 2. Enter the Call Screen Plus code within 10 seconds. After you enter the code, the TAD says, "Wait." During this time, the TAD's built-in ringer sounds. If someone answers the call, the TAD resets. If no one answers the call within four rings, the TAD says, "No answer, record message" and sounds a beep. After the beep, you can record a message. Notes: If you enter an incorrect code, the TAD says, "First error." If the second entry is incorrect, the TAD says, "Second error." If the third entry is incorrect, the TAD says, "Third error," finishes playing the OGM, and then records the call as a regular incoming message. If you do not enter the correct code within 10 seconds of the TAD's prompt, the outgoing announcement resumes from the current position. Then the TAD sounds a beep and records the call as a regular incoming message. PLAYING MESSAGES The MESSAGE indicator flashes slowly after the TAD records at least one message, and MEMO and 2-WAY appear on the display after the TAD records at least one memo or two-way conversation. Message Grouping The TAD separates messages into two groups - new and old. This saves you from having to listen to messages you have already heard. The new message group contains messages you have not played. If you reset the TAD to answer calls without playing all of the new messages, the messages you listened to remain part of the new message group. The old message group consists of all messages you have already played. When you play all of your new messages and reset the TAD to answer calls, all of the messages become part of the old message group. Playing New Messages To play new messages, press PLAY. The MESSAGE indicator flashes and the TAD announces the number of new calls and new messages. Then the incoming message tape rewinds to the beginning of the new messages and begins playback. The tape plays to the end of the messages or until you press STOP/TIME. After the TAD plays each message, it announces the number of the message and when it was recorded. For example, "Message 2, twelve-twenty-six AM, Monday, October 14." When the TAD reaches the end of the messages, the TAD beeps three times and says, "End of messages," and the message indicator stops flashing. To replay the messages, press REWIND. When the tape stops, the TAD says, "Beginning of messages." Press PLAY. To continue replaying messages, use REWIND and FAST-F to rewind or fast- forward the tape. Then press PLAY to play the messages. Note: If you reset the TAD to answer calls before you listen to all of your new messages, the TAD fast-forwards the tape to the end of the messages before it answers calls. This prevents you from accidentally recording over unplayed messages. The MESSAGES display still shows the total number of messages, but the CALLS display resets to 0. Using Cue and Review The TAD lets you cue or review the incoming message tape to quickly find a specific message or part of a message. To cue or review the tape, press and hold FAST-F or REWIND during playback. The tape plays at a high-speed as it rewinds or fast-forwards. Release FAST-F or REWIND to resume normal playback. Note: The tape automatically stops at the beginning and end of the new messages and at the beginning and end of the tape. When the tape reaches the beginning of the messages or the beginning of the tape, the TAD says, "Beginning of messages" or "Beginning of tape." It might be necessary to press REWIND more than once to get to the beginning of the tape. ERASING MESSAGES You can erase messages from the incoming message tape by recording over the old messages or by erasing the tape. Note: You must play all new messages before you can record over or erase them. If you try to erase or record over the messages before you listen to all of them, the TAD winds the tape to the end of the messages and resets to answer calls. To record over old messages, rewind the tape to the beginning of the messages you want to record over. Then set the TAD to answer calls. To erase messages, follow these steps. 1.
