Siren/Alarm (490-0525) Installation Faxback Doc. # 7209 The siren is weatherproof and should last for years when correctly mounted. Be sure to avoid the following situations. When you install the siren outside, avoid pointing the siren up. In this position, the siren collects and retains moisture When you install the siren in a vehicle, avoid mounting the siren where rain would collect or be forced into the siren while you drive Avoid mounting siren above heating vents. To mount the siren, you need 6 screws that fit the mounting base holes. Follow these steps to mount the siren: 1. Remove the nuts, washers, and bolts that connect the base to the siren. 2. Use the base as a guide and mark places for the screws. 3. Drill holes for the screws. Caution: If you mount the siren in your vehicle, be sure not to drill into any wiring or mechanisms. 4. Place the base over the mounting area, insert the mounting screws, and tighten the screws so that they hold the base on the wall. Do not fully tighten the screws. 5. Hold the siren and route its wires through the base. 6. While holding the siren, secure the mounting screws and replace the nuts, washers, and bolts that secure the siren to the base. Do not fully secure the nuts and bolts. 7. Angle the siren as needed and tighten the nuts and bolts. WIRING Wire the siren to an alarm system's terminals that supply 6-to 16-volts DC power. See your alarm system's manual for terminals and wiring instructions for sounding devices. Caution: If you plan to connect the siren to your vehicles battery, be sure your vehicle has a 6- to 16-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. Connect the siren's black wire to the negative terminal of the power supply. Then, connect the other wires as follows. Connect the red wire to the alarm outputs positive terminal for a pulsating tone. Connect the white wire to the alarm outputs positive terminal for a steady tone. If you have an alarm system with two positive alarm output terminals, you can connect the white wire to one terminal and the red wire to the other terminal. Use the steady tone to alert you to a fire and the pulsating tone to alert you to an intruder. (LB/all-07/19/94)
