TRC-483 (210-1557) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7215 Before you start using your CB, you should know how to use it effectively and courteously. "CB Operation Tips" contains information that will help you get more enjoyment from you CB. RECEIVING TRANSMISSIONS CAUTION: Do not attempt to use your CB without first connecting it to an antenna. 1. Turn SQUELCH fully counterclock-wise. 2. Turn VOLUME clockwise and adjust it to a comfortable listening level. 3. Turn CHANNEL to select the desired channel. The channel number appears on the display along with a bar graph which indicates received signal strength. 4. Turn SQUELCH clockwise until background noise stops. NOTE: To receive a weak transmission, turn SQUELCH counterclockwise. 5. If necessary, turn RF.GAIN clockwise to increase the strength of a signal. 6. To select Emergency Channel 9, press CH9.EMG appears on the display. NOTES: Channel 9 is reserved for reporting emergency information about accidents, hazardous road conditions, and so on. Do not use Channel 9 for non-emergency messages. Pressing CH9 temporarily disengages CHANNEL. Press CH9 again to return the CB to normal channel selection. CH9 does not function when the CB is in PA mode (see "Using the Public Address Function") or WX mode (see "Listening to Weather Broadcast"). 7. If you hear low-level popping-type noises, press ANL to turn on the automatic noise limiting circuit. 8. To turn off the RRC-483, turn VOLUME counterclockwise until you hear it click. TRANSMITTING 1. Follow the steps described in "Receiving Transmissions." 2. Hold the microphone 2 or 3 inches from your mouth. Press and hold down the microphone talk button and speak into the microphone in a normal voice. TX appears on the display along with a bar graph which indicates the relative strength of your transmission. NOTE: Do not speak too loudly when transmitting. It does not make your signal any stronger, and might distort your transmission. 3. When you finish transmitting, release the microphone talk button. TX disappears from the display. You can now receive transmissions. 4. To turn off the TRC-483, turn VOLUME counterclockwise until you hear it click. USING THE PUBLIC ADDRESS FUNCTION 1. Connect a PA speaker to the TRC-483's described in "Connecting an Optional External Speaker." 2. Press PA. PA appears on the display. 3. Press and hold down the microphone talk button and speak into the microphone talk button and speak into the microphone in a normal voice. 4. Adjust VOLUME as needed. NOTE: When you press in PA, the CB's internal speaker is disconnected. To prevent feedback, hold the microphone as far away from the PA speaker as possible. 5.
