Telescoping Mast (150-5067) Installation Faxback Doc. # 7257 WHERE TO INSTALL YOUR TELESCOPING MAST (SITE SELECTION): Before attempting to install your antenna system, think where you can best place your mast and antenna for safety and performance. To determine a safe distance from wires, power lines, and trees, add the length of your antenna to the length of the Telescoping Mast being used. Double this total for the recommended safe distance. If you are unable to maintain this safe distance. STOP! GET PROFESSIONAL HELP! Good practice is to install your Mast as far away as possible from power lines and obstructions. TYPES OF MOUNTING STRUCTURES: BASE MOUNTS - Mounts on flat Roofs. PEAK MOUNTS - Mounts in Peak Roofs. UNIVERSAL MOUNTS - Mounts on Flat or Peak Roofs. Telescoping Masting is usually mounted on the roof, but it can also be mounted to the side of the structure. The lower section of each Telescoping Mast is a different diameter. Choose the correct mount that will accept the lower section of Telescoping Mast you are using. NOTE: 20 ft. Telescoping--1-1/2" Dis. lower section. 30 ft. Telescoping--1-3/4" Dia. lower section. 40 ft. Telescoping--2" Dia. lower section. 50 ft. Telescoping--2-1/4" Dia. lower section. TELESCOPING MASTING INSTALLATION NOTE: For 50 ft. Masts only. Remove cotter pin and slide inner sections out past hole. Then insert this pin in same hole of bottom section to support the inner mast sections as shown. 1. After selection of a safe position for the mount, position anchor points for the guy wire as shown in Figure 1. 2. Attach guy wire (4 places recommended) to the lowest guy ring and wrap guy wire at least six turns around itself. 3. Insert lower section of Telescoping Mast into mount, making sure mast is in a vertical position, and secure the guy wires at the anchor points. Note: One person is required at each anchor point to hold guy wires as you extend the remaining sections. 4. After the guy wires have been secured for the lower section, a ladder may be leaned against the mast and tied in place. 5. Mount your antenna to the upper mast section. (1-1/4" Dia.) and secure transmission line with standouts. Secure the upper guy ring approximately 6" below antenna using mast clamp with hex bolt. Attach guy wire to guy rings as indicated in step 2. 6. Raise the upper section of mast with antenna until it reaches its stop. Insert platform pin and rotate mast until slot in bottom of mast section engages with platform pin. Tighten "L" screw on mast clamp to secure upper section in place. Note: Special "T-nut" is provided on mast clamps for # 10-20 combination standout to secure transmission line. 7. Using a person at each anchor point to hold guy wires, raise each section and secure in place as indicated in step 6. (working from the smallest dia. (1-1/4") to the largest.) 8. After Telescoping Mast is fully extended draw the guy wires taut (keeping the mast perfectly vertical) and secure to anchor points. (LB/all-08/9/94)
