Cordless Soldering Gun (640-2194) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7265 Follow these instructions to use the soldering gun. 1. Unlock the trigger. 2. Tin the soldering tip. 3. Press and hold the trigger. Wait 20 to 30 seconds for maximum tip heat. 4. Place and hold the gun's tip on the larger of the pieces being joined. 5. Apply solder to the joint you are soldering, not to the gun's tip. Allow the solder to flow over the joint area. 6. Remove the tip and release the trigger. When you are finished with the gun, lock the trigger and place the gun in a safe place to cool. SAFETY HINTS Follow these guidelines to ensure your safety while you use the soldering gun. Keep the gun away from flammable materials. Do not use the gun as a screwdriver or pry. Release the trigger when the tip is not in contact with the workpiece. Be sure the gun is cool before you remove or replace the tip. Do not dip the tip into any liquid, including liquid flux. Clean the tip by lightly wiping it, while still hot, across a damp sponge placed on a non-flammable surface. Always wear safety glasses when you use the soldering gun. SOLDERING TIPS Be sure to secure the workpiece to prevent movement during soldering. To ensure a strong bond, thoroughly clean the surfaces before soldering. Remove rust or finishes with steel wool, sandpaper, or a wire brush. Remove any grease or oil with alcohol. Use the proper solder for the intended work. Use only rosin core solder for electrical work. Never use acid core solder on electrical components, or damage might result to both the workpiece and the soldering tip. (br/all-8/10/94)
