ET-209 (430-0617A) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 7277 The ET-209 Telephone is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the telephone so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the telephone dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the telephone only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the telephone gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the telephone to work improperly. Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that destroy electronic circuits. Keep the telephone away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Occasionally wipe the telephone with a damp cloth to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the telephone. Modifying or tampering with the ET-209's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate your ET-209's warranty. If your ET-209 is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. If the trouble is harming the telephone lines, the telephone company might ask you to disconnect your ET-209 until you have resolved the problem. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS If your telephone is not operating properly, review the following checklist. Doing so can save you time and money. Be sure the telephone is properly connected to the telephone line. Be sure TONE/PULSE MODE is set correctly. Be sure the appropriate LINE button is pressed. Be sure the AC adapter is properly connected. Be sure the RJ-14 jack is wired properly. Be sure you connected the same telephone number to each line at every station. If the telephone's volume level drops or the telephone begins to make an unusual sound, check to see if other phones have been picked up on the same line. In areas with low telephone voltage, the telephone might not operate when other phones are active on the same line. Hanging up the other phones should correct the problem. It is normal to occasionally hear other conversations during your calls on some telephone networks. If this happens frequently, be sure the telephone jacks were wired correctly with twisted-pair telephone cable (for an extension over 25 feet), not flat, modular cable. If you still have problems, disconnect your telephone immediately. If other telephones on the same line operate properly, the problem is in this telephone or its installation. If you cannot find the problem, bring the telephone and all accessories to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. (all-08/11/94)
