Turning it left (counterclockwise) reduces the high-frequency (treble) sound while turning it right (clockwise) increases the high-frequency sound. SETTING THE CLOCK 1. Turn on the stereo and wait 5 seconds until the display shows the clock. If the display shows the frequency, press F/C (frequency clock). 2. While you press and hold down F/C, repeatedly press /\ until the display shows the correct minute. To make the minute advance quickly, press and hold down /\. 3. While you press and hold down F/C, repeatedly press \/ until the display shows the correct hour. To make the hour advance quickly, press and hold down \/. 4. Press BAND until AM1, AM2, FM1, FM2, or FM3 appears on the display. Note: Each time you press BAND, the radio automatically tunes to the last station selected in the band you are switching to. 3. Tune to the desired station in one of the following ways: Manual Tuning: Repeatedly press /\ or \/ to tune up or down the selected band. To tune the band more quickly, press and hold down either /\ or \/. Seek Tuning: Press SEEK to tune to the next higher station with a strong signal. Scan Tuning: When you press SCAN, the radio plays for 5 seconds at each station it finds, and the station's frequency flashes on the display. Press SCAN again to stop scanning. Note: If the stereo does not find a strong station when seeking or scanning, the stereo searches the band again and stops on weaker stations. 4. Adjust ON/VOLUME, TONE, and BALANCE as desired. Notes: ST appears on the display when an FM Signal is received in stereo. To temporarily display the frequency of the station currently playing, press F/C. The display shows the frequency for 5 seconds, then returns to the time display. MEMORY TUNING You can store up to 12 AM and 18 FM stations in memory. Each memory group (AM 1, AM 2, FM1, FM2, and FM3) holds up to six stations. You can let the stereo search for any six stations in a band and automatically enter these into a memory group, or you can manually enter stations into a memory group. Automatically Storing Stations 1. Press BAND until the stereo displays the band and memory group into which you want to store a group of stations. For example, to store the first group of AM stations, press BAND until AM1 is displayed. 2. Use any tuning method to tune to the frequency below the first station you want to store. For example, if you wanted to store 91.9 MHz first, you would tune to 91.7 MHz 3. Press and hold down AMS for 3 seconds. The system automatically stores the first station you wanted to store, then scans the selected band and stores the next five strong stations. After the radio has stored all six stations into memory, it tunes to the first stored station in the memory group and begins to play. Note: If a station you want to store has a weak signal or interference, the stereo might not store it automatically. If the stereo will not automatically store a station you want, you can manually store it. See "Manually Storing Stations." Manually Storing Stations 1. Press BAND until the stereo displays the band and memory group you want to use to store stations. For example, to store into the first group of AM stations, press BAND until AM1 is displayed. 2. Use any tuning method to tune to the station you want to store. 3. Press and hold down the desired memory location button until the memory location number and the station's frequency appear on the display. This shows that the station is stored. The volume briefly mutes while the radio stores the station, and returns to normal after the station is stored. Selecting a Stored Station To select a stored station, press BAND to select the correct memory group. Then press the desired memory location button. Caution: Do not hold down the memory location button. This erases the previously stored station and stores the currently tuned station in its place. Scanning Stored Stations The automatic memory scan (AMS) mode causes the radio to scan all stored stations in the selected band, pausing for 5 seconds at each station. To start the automatic memory scan mode, briefly press AMS. The radio begins scanning the stored stations. Caution: Do not hold down AMS. This causes the radio to automatically seek and store 6 stations into the selected memory group's memory. To stop the scanning when the radio pauses at a station you want to listen to, either press AMS or the station's memory location button. Note: If you do not press AMS, the stereo will scan the band again and tune to each stored station for about 5 seconds. CASSETTE PLAYER OPERATION PLAYING A CASSETTE Warning: To prevent hearing damage, always turn the volume to its lowest level before you begin listening to a tape. Note: Avoid using C-120 cassette tapes. They are very thin and can easily become tangled in the tape-handling parts. Follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Take up any slack by turning the cassette's hub with your finger or a pencil. (Avoid touching the tape.) 2. Turn ON/VOLUME clockwise to turn on the stereo. 3. Insert the tape into the cassette compartment with its open edge to the right. The tape begins to play. 4. Adjust ON/VOLUME, TONE, and BALANCE as desired. 5. Press in UP ARROW all the way to stop the tape and eject the cassette. Notes: When the tape reaches the end, the cassette player automatically changes the tape's direction and plays the other side of the tape. Play continues until you press UP ARROW. If you play a cassette tape several times, the tape can become tightly wound. This can cause distortion. To restore the correct tension, fast-forward through the entire cassette and then completely rewind it. During play, you can switch to the other side of the cassette by pressing LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW at the same time. FAST-FORWARD AND REWIND To fast-forward the current side, firmly press RIGHT ARROW. To rewind the current side, firmly press LEFT ARROW. The button locks and the tape quickly winds. Play resumes when the end of the tape is reached. To stop fast winding before the end of the tape, gently press and release the opposite button. Play continues. Note: Fast-forward always quickly moves the tape in the same direction the tape is currently playing and rewind always quickly moves the tape in the opposite direction. (br/all-8/11/94)
