U-120 UHF Antenna (150-1662) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 7371 BEFORE YOU BEGIN Before you begin installation, read this manual and the separate Consumer Product Safety Commission information sheet. For your safety and convenience, plan each step of installation and purchase the necessary hardware in advance. The order in which you perform the steps and the hardware required depends on the mounting and connection methods you use. PREPARING THE ANTENNA Prepare the antenna for installation as follows: 1. Grasp each element near its pivot point and unfold or turn it so it locks into place. 2. Fold out the wing booms so they snap into place. 3. Use the supplied hardware to loosely attach one of the supplied mast clamp assemblies to the antenna's main boom. 4. Loosely attach the other mast clamp assembly to the cradle boom. Then attach the H-blocks to the antenna. 5. Insert the supplied end plugs into the ends of the cradle boom and each antenna boom. ATTACHING TO THE MAST Attach the cradle boom and antenna to the mast as follows. 1. Slide the antenna mast clamp over the end of the mast about 10 inches from the top of the mast, and tighten the nuts just enough to hold the antenna in place. Note: If you are adding the UHF antenna to a VHF antenna, mount the UHF antenna on the mast at least 42" (1.1m) below the VHF antenna. 2. Slide the cradle boom's mast clamp assembly over the end of the mast, and snap into the H-Blocks of the antenna. Tighten the nuts just enough to hold the antenna in place. The strain relief bracket and antenna lead-in terminals should face down. 3. Position the antenna so the shorter elements point toward the stations you want to receive. 4. Tighten the nuts for both mast clamp assemblies, but do not over- tighten. 5. If you are installing the UHF antenna as a single antenna with an antenna rotator, follow its instruction sheet for positioning the antenna. ADDING UHF ANTENNA TO A VHF ANTENNA 1. Connect the UHF antenna to a VHF antenna by cutting the twin-lead cable of the VHF antenna at 70" (1.8m) down (long enough to reach the UHF antenna). 2. Feed both loose ends of the twin-lead cable thru the strain relief of the UHF antenna and connect to terminals labeled CONNECT LEAD-IN HERE using supplied hardware. 3. In some locations it may be necessary to use a VHF/UHF combiner such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 15-1137 to receive a satisfactory picture. (br/all-8/12/94)
