Here's an example. 1. With digital books installed, press CARD. These are the symbols for the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Plus and Word Games digital Games digital books, as well as for the notepad. The symbols you see depend on which digital books are installed. 2. To highlight a book symbol, press > or <. 3. Press ENTER. The highlighted book opens. To switch to the other digital book, repeat the steps above. USING THE NOTEPAD The Digital Book System contains a built-in notepad that can store up to 60 lines of text. You can use the notepad regardless of which digital books are installed. Here's how to type notes. 1. Press CARD. 2. Highlight the notepad symbol. Then press ENTER. Now you can type letters, numbers, and other characters. To... Press... Type letters the letter keys Type numbers Gold key + Q, W etc. Erase characters BACK Insert a line ENTER Move the cursor < > down arrow up arrow Zoom the cursor Gold key + any arrow key Page up or down Up or Dn Here's an example of the notes you can type. Things to Do: 1. Revise 2nd qtr sales report. 2. Call ad agency re: new campaign. 3. order tickets for game tonight. 4. buy more digital books. 3. To save your notes and exit the notepad, press CARD. COPYING WORDS TO THE NOTEPAD Besides typing words in your notepad, you can copy them directly from installed digital books. Here's an example using The Medical Letter Handbook of Adverse Drug Interactions. 1. Highlight a word or phrase in a digital book. SELECT 1ST ITEM TO LOOK UP: ACETA ACETA-GESIC ACET-AM ACETAMINOPHEN ACETAZOLAMIDE In the Handbook of Adverse Drug Interactions, you press the arrow keys to highlight a word. In other books, you press ENTER and then the arrow keys. Read their User's Manual for details. 2. Hold gold key and press CARD. 3. Highlight the notepad symbol. Then press ENTER. 4. Move the cursor to where you want to insert the words into your notepad. Then hold gold key and press V. acetaminophen Here's the word you highlighted, now in your notepad. EDITING YOUR NOTES Once you have notes in your notepad, you can cut, copy, and paste them in the notepad as you would in a word processor. Here's how. 1. Move the cursor to a word in the notepad. Press... highlight the next word MORE unhighlight a word BACK highlight lines gold key + MORE highlight all text gold key + SHIFT + MORE unhighlight text any arrow key delete highlighted text CLEAR 2. Hold gold key and press X. The highlighted text disappears, but it hasn't been deleted. To copy rather than cut highlighted text, hold gold key and press C. 3. Move the cursor to where you want to paste words in the notepad. Then hold gold key and press C. If you cut or copy text, and then cut or copy more text before pasting the first, the first text will be deleted. Also, you can't undo cut, copy, and paste commands. Looking up Words From the Notepad You can look up words and phrases from your notebook by sending them to certain digital books. Not all digital books, however, can receive words. And most digital books can't receive more than one or two words at a time. So don't send long phrases or entire line. In this example, we'll look up a word in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Plus. 1. Move the cursor to the word you want to send from the notepad. Then highlight it by pressing MORE. My vocabulary list: 1. ingenuous 2. stentorian 3. ephemeral 4. plethora 2. Hold gold key and press CARD. 3. Highlight the symbol of the digital book you want to send to. Then press ENTER. 4. Press ENTER again. in gen u ous (adjective) : innocent and candid in gen u ous ly (adverb) in gen u ous ness (noun) Sending Words Between Books Just as you can send words and phrases between digital books and the notepad, so can you send them between certain digital books. Remember, not all digital books can receive words. When you try to send words or phrases to those books, you'll see an appropriate message. The example below shows how to look up a word from Word Games in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Plus. 1. Highlight an anagram in Word Games by pressing ENTER and then the arrow keys. dodge Words: 6 Found: 0 Press SPACE to continue doe dog ego god odd ode 2. Hold gold key and press CARD. 3.
