System 412 (430-0460A) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 7466 SETTING THE TELEPHONE'S EXTENSION NUMBER The telephone has a rotary switch on the bottom that you use to select your telephone's intercom extension number. Be sure to select a different number, from 0 to 9, for each telephone. 1. Turn the telephone upside down and slide down the memory index. 2. Use the thin metal driver attached on the bottom cabinet to rotate the switch so that its inscribed arrow head points to the number you want. After your complete the setting, put the driver back in its holder. Note: You can connect up to 10 stations to your system. USING THE INTERCOM DIRECTORY We attached an intercom directory to your telephone for your convenience. Lift the plastic cover from the directory using a paper clip or other pointed object. Write the name of a person, a section, or a room number for each extension. Use a pencil, in case you need to change a label later. Replace the cover when you finish. SETTING THE RF CARRIER SWITCH The telephone uses a telephone line to carry the intercom and operation data signals. The RF CARRIER switch on the back panel allows you to select which line carries this signal. Under normal conditions, set the switch to its LINE 1 position. If you experience interference with this setting, set the switch to Line 3. Be sure you have selected a line you have connected. If you select a line which is not connected to the telephone, you cannot use the intercom and special features functions. You must set all the telephone RF CARRIER switches to the same position, and you must connect the same telephone number to each line at every station. SETTING THE LINE MODE SWITCHES There are four LINE MODE switches on the right side of your telephone. Each switch turns the ringer and the status indicators on and off for the corresponding line (Line 1 - Line 4) according to its position. A - Turns off both the incoming ringer and the line status indicator. B - Turns off the incoming ringer. You can still use the line and the line indicator works normally. C - The incoming ringer and the line status indicator work normally. If you have not connected one of the lines, set its LINE MODE switch to A. If you have connected the line, setting the switch to this position completely disables the line for this station. If you have connected the telephone to the line but want the telephone for the primary use of another extension, set its LINE MODE switch to B. This turns off the ringer for the line. You can still see the line condition with the line status indicator, and you can take or make calls, when necessary. For normal use, set the switch to C. SETTING THE RINGER SWITCH The telephone has a switch on its right side that sets the ringer's volume. Set the switch as follows: HI - Normal volume LO - Reduced volume NOTING TELEPHONE NUMBERS Lift the plastic cover from the telephone number plate, using a paper clip or other pointed object. Write the telephone number for each line in the space provided. Use a pencil, in case a number changes. Replace the cover. SETTING THE DIALING MODE Set the TONE/PULSE switch on the right side of your telephone for the type of service you have (pulse or tone). If you are not sure which type of service you have, do this simple test. 1. Set the TONE/PULSE switch to TONE. 2. Lift the handset, press LINE 1, and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number other than 0. If the dial tone stops, you have touch-tone service. If the dial tone continues, you have pulse service. 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for all lines you have connected. 5. If you have pulse service on any line, set the TONE/PULSE switch to PULSE. (LB/all-8/30/94)
