System 714 (130-1261) Radio Faxback Doc. # 7478 LISTENING TO THE RADIO NOTE: To protect your hearing, set the VOLUME /\ or \/ control to its minimum level before turning on the system. 1. Press POWER ON/OFF on the amplifier/cassette deck to ON. The STAND-BY indicator lights. 2. Press POWER ON/OFF on the tuner/CD to ON. The STAND-BY indicator lights. 3. Press TAPE/CD/TUNE to the out position to select the TUNER. The radio's LCD display lights. 4. Set BAND to the desired (AM or FM) band. Notes: The built-in ferrite antenna is used for AM reception. Position the system for the best AM reception. If you connect a 300-ohm indoor antenna to the back of the tuner/CD, fully extend it for the best FM reception. 5. Tune the station to the desired station using one of the following methods: * Manual Tuning -- Press (or press and hold) TUNING /\|\/ to manually tune the radio to the next higher or lower station. * Automatic Seek Tuning -- Press AUTO once. The tuner automatically searches up in frequency and stops when it finds the next strong station. Press AUTO again to find the next station. * Direct Memory Tuning -- Press the desired preset station button (1 through 5) to directly select a radio station that you stored in memory. For preset stations 6 through 10, press SHIFT, then the desired preset station button. (See "Storing Stations in Memory.") * Preset Station Scan Tuning -- Press AMS. The system scans the preset stations and plays each for 5 seconds consecutively. To stop the tuner scanning at a desired station, press TUNING /\|\/ within 5 seconds after the tuner momentarily stops on a station. (See "Storing Stations in Memory.") 6. Press (or press and hold) VOLUME /\ or \/ to adjust the volume. 7. Adjust BALANCE until the sound comes equally from the left and right speakers. 8. Press E-BASS for enhanced bass effects. 9. Adjust the 5-Band Equalizer as desired. (See "Using the 5-Band Equalizer.") 10. If FM reception is strong, set STEREO/MONO to STEREO to enhance the stereo signal. STEREO lights when you tune to a FM stereo broadcast. If FM reception is weak, set STEREO/MONO to MONO to increase the tuner's sensitivity to the FM signal. STEREO goes off an the sound is in mono, but the reception improves. STORING STATIONS IN MEMORY You can store a total of 20 frequencies in memory (10 AM and 10 FM). 1. Set AM/FM to the desired band. 2. Select a station. 3. While the frequency appears on the display, press MEMORY once. 4. Press a preset station button (1 through 5). The preset memory number appears in the lower right corner of the display and the frequency is stored in the selected preset location. 5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 to store four more stations in the selected preset location. 6. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 but press SHIFT before you press a preset station button (1 through 5) to program an additional 5 stations in the same band. 7.
