System 720 (130-1267) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7635 LISTENING THROUGH HEADPHONES Plug the cord from a pair of headphones with a 1/4-inch plug (not included) into the PHONES jack. When the headphones are plugged in, the speakers are automatically disconnected. Your local Radio Shack store sells a wide selection of headphones. PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES WHEN LISTENING WITH HEADPHONES. To protect your ears and the headphones from damage, set the VOLUME control to MINIMUM before plugging in or unplugging the headphones. Do not listen at high volume, as this could damage your hearing. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or discontinue use. CAUTION: If you are not sure whether your speakers can safely handle the maximum audio power output of this unit, do not turn the VOLUME control up too high. FAILURE TO OBSERVE THIS PRECAUTION MAY PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR SPEAKERS. Because the infrared beam travels in a straight line, the transmitter window on the remote control must be pointed toward the infrared sensor window on the tuner's front panel. Make sure that there are not objects between the remote control and the tuner's front panel that might block the beam. Each button on the remote control performs the same function as the corresponding button on the system's front panels. The MUTING and MODE controls are located only on the remote control. Press the POWER button on the amplifier's front panel to turn on the system's power. To turn off the system's functions but keep the system in the standby mode, press the POWER button on the remote control. NOTE: To be able to turn the system on with the remote control, the system must be in the standby mode. With power to the system turned on, press the POWER button on the amplifier's front panel to completely switch off the power. The standby indicator stays off and you cannot use the remote control to turn on the system. CUSTOMIZING THE SOUND GRAPHIC EQUALIZER CONTROLS The GRAPHIC EQUALIZER controls allow the sound to be tailored to individual musical preferences or to fit the acoustics of the room. Turning the control to the right will increase the sound level in a narrow range of musical frequencies and turning the control to the left will decrease the sound level. 63 Hz - This control enhances low bass notes (as in organ music), corrects for deficiencies in bass, caused either by a listening room with poor acoustic properties, or by a component of your system (like a speaker, cartridge or record) with a poor bass response. 250 Hz - This control allows you to vary the upper bass frequencies. 1 kHz - This control is the presence control. It can be used to emphasize (bring out to the front), or to deemphasize vocals. 4 kHz - This control adds brilliance and clarity to brass instruments and violins. 16 kHz - This control can be used to make up for missing high frequencies absorbed by the environment and to add a natural crispness to music. BALANCE CONTROL This control is used to adjust the sound balance between the left and right channels. VOLUME CONTROL Adjust the sound level by turning the VOLUME control. The Volume Control Position indicator flashes and the VOLUME control turns when the VOLUME UP or DOWN button on the remote control is pressed. LOUDNESS BUTTON ON (Button IN) - For increased low and high frequency response at low volume levels. OFF (button OUT) - When listening at medium or higher volume levels. MUTE INDICATOR The MUTE indicator will light when the muting button on the remote control is pressed. ON - To reduce the volume to approximately 1/10 of the present level. OFF - To return the volume level to normal. BASIC ADJUSTMENTS Before switching on the power to the unit, follow the steps below to protect the speakers from damage. 1.
