System 720 (130-1267) Recording Faxback Doc. # 7639 RECORDING RADIO PROGRAMS, RECORDS OR COMPACT DISCS 1. Press the POWER button to switch the power ON (button IN). 2. Set the DUBBING button to OFF (button OUT). 3. Insert a blank cassette to be recorded on into TAPE 1 with the full reel on the left, the side to be recorded on facing out, and the exposed tape facing down. 4. Set the DOLBY NR button to the correct position. 5. Tune in a radio program, play a record, or play a compact disc. 6. Press the TAPE 1 RECORD button. The TAPE 1 PLAY button will lock down at the same time. 7. Adjust the VOLUME, BALANCE and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER controls as desired. 8. To temporarily stop recording, press the TAPE 1 PAUSE button. Press it again to resume recording. 9. To stop recording, press the TAPE 1 STOP/EJECT button. The tape will automatically stop when the end of the tape is reached. PLAYBACK OR RECORDING USING AN EXTERNAL UNIT 1. Using a standard audio cable with phono plugs, connect the LINE OUT jacks of the external unit to the AUX jacks on the back of the System 720. 2. Press the AUX Function Selector button. The AUX Function display lights. 3. Insert a cassette into TAPE 1 and place the unit in the recording mode. 4. Set the external unit to the play mode. 5. Adjust the VOLUME, BALANCE and GRAPHIC EQUALIZER controls on the unit as desired. ERASING A TAPE There are three ways to erase tapes: A. Record over an unwanted recording. B. Use a bulk tape eraser (such as Cat. No. 44-232, not supplied). C. Erase the tape without recording new material. 1. Insert a cassette into TAPE 1, with the side to be erased facing out. 2. Set the DUBBING button to OFF (button OUT). 3. Make sure that nothing is plugged into the AUX jacks. 4. Press the AUX Function Selector button. 5. Press the TAPE 1 RECORD button. The side of the tape facing out will be erased. TIMER OPERATION SETTING THE TIMER OFF TIME 1. Press the POWER button to switch the power ON (button IN). 2. Press the TIMER button once to select the timer OFF mode. The TIMER indicator lights. The Off Time display on the unit will show 90 for approximately 5 seconds. The power to the unit will be switched OFF after a 90-minute delay. Press the TIMER button repeatedly to select different delay time durations. Each time the TIMER button is pressed, the Off Time display on the unit will change as shown below. Press the TIMER button a total of ten times to cancel the timer OFF mode (TIMER indicator OFF). 3. When the power to the unit has been switched off by the timer, press the POWER ON/OFF button on the remote control to switch the power back ON. NOTE: To prevent damage to the pinch roller and cassette tape, if you are using timer operation while playing a cassette tape, select a timer delay time interval longer than the length of the cassette to be played or recorded (e.g. 60 minutes for one side of a C-90 cassette). This will allow the tape deck to stop automatically before the power is switched off by the timer. SETTING THE TIMER ON DELAY TIME 1. Press the POWER button to switch the power ON (button IN). 2. For timer radio play or timer radio recording, press the TUNER Function Selector button. Adjust the VOLUME control on the unit to a comfortable listening level. For timer CD play, press the CD Function Selector button, load a CD, then go to step 4. For timer tape playback, go to step 4. 3. Press the TUNING UP or DOWN button, or two STATION buttons to tune in a memorized station. 4. Press and hold down the TIMER button for approximately 3 seconds to select the timer ON mode, then release the button. The ON Time display and TIMER indicator flash. 5. Press the STATION buttons to enter the ON Time period in hours and minutes. The timer ON Time delay period can be set in 5-minute increments (maximum is 23 hours, 55 minutes) Example: To switch the system's power ON in 8 hours and 15 minutes, press 0, 8, 1, 5 to enter 8.15 for the timer ON Time. Press the TIMER button again to cancel the timer ON Time while the On Time display and TIMER indicators are flashing. 6. Approximately 3 seconds after the timer ON Time is entered, the display panels and all of the indicators except the STAND BY indicator turn OFF. The unit is set to the standby mode. 7. Timer CD or radio play will begin after the selected timer ON Time delay period. For timer tape playback, go to step 10. 8. For timer radio recording, insert a cassette into the TAPE 1 cassette compartment. 9. Press the TAPE 1 RECORD button. Timer radio recording will begin after the selected timer ON Time delay period. 10. For timer tape playback, insert the tape to be played into the TAPE 1 or TAPE 2 cassette compartment. If TAPE 2 is used for playback: Before setting the timer ON mode, press the TAPE 2 DIRECTION button to select the side of the tape to be played. Press the TAPE 2 REVERSE MODE button to select the one-cycle or continuous-play mode. Note: See step 5, AUTOMATIC REVERSE PLAYBACK (TAPE 2). 11. Press the TAPE 1 or TAPE 2 PLAY button. Timer tape playback will begin after the selected timer ON Time delay period. 12. To cancel the timer ON mode, press the POWER ON/OFF button on the remote control. NOTE: To prevent damage to the pinch roller and cassette tape, if you are using the cassette player, make the timer ON Time delay period as short as possible. (br/all-9/19/94
