CTR-69 (140-1154) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7649 You can use your CTR-69's tape deck to make recordings or to play your favorite cassette tapes. USING THE TONE CONTROL You can use the CTR-69's TONE control to customize the CTR-69's sound. Rotate the control toward 10 to increase the volume of the high tones, or to rotate the control toward 0 to increase the volume of the low tones. USING AN EARPHONE CAUTIONS: Always set the volume to minimum before you plug in an earphone to prevent damage to the earphone and to protect your ears from excessive volume levels. Slowly adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels, especially when using an earphone. Extended, high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Do not wear an earphone while operating a motor vehicle. This can create a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. To connect the earphone, insert its plug into the jack labeled EAR/SPKR on the left side of the cabinet. NOTE: The speaker automatically disconnects when you plug in the earphone. INSERTING A CASSETTE TAPE Insert a tape using these steps: 1. Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette compartment door. 2. Insert a cassette tape with the side you want to pay facing up and the exposed tape edge facing you. NOTE: Before you load a cassette, take up any slack in the tape by turning the hub with a pencil. If you do not remove excess slack, the tape might become tangled in the record/playback mechanism. Avoid touching the tape. 3. Close the cassette compartment door. PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE Follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Insert a cassette tape. "See Inserting a Cassette Tape." 2. Press PLAY. NOTE: The tape moves from the left reel to the right reel during play. 3. Adjust VOLUME/REC LEVEL and TONE to suit your taste. NOTE: You can listen to the CTR-69 by inserting the plug of an earphone or an amplified speaker (not supplied) into the EAR/SPKR jack on the cabinet's left side. Your local Radio Shack store sells a variety of earphones and amplified speakers. 4. Press STOP/EJECT to stop play. If the cassette tape plays to the end, the cassette deck automatically releases PLAY and stops. After you finish playing a cassette tape, open the cassette compartment and remove the cassette tape. NOTE: If you play a particular cassette a number of times, the tape can become too tightly wound on either hub. Before you use the cassette again, restore the tape's normal tension by rewinding the entire cassette tape. USING FAST-FORWARD AND REWIND Press CUE/FAST-F or REVIEW/REWIND when the cassette deck is stopped to wind the tape rapidly forward or backward. The cassette tape winds forward or backward until it reaches the end or until you press STOP/EJECT. NOTE: When the tape is fully wound to either reel, the cassette deck automatically releases FAST-F or REWIND. USING CUE AND REVIEW Pressing and holding down CUE/FAST-F during play allows you to cue (play the cassette tape at high speed) so that you can quickly locate any desired section on the tape. When you release CUE/FAST-F, the recorder returns to normal play. Pressing and holding down REVIEW/REWIND during play allows you to review (play the cassette tape in reverse at high speed). When you release REVIEW/REWIND, the recorder returns to normal play. USING THE TAPE COUNTER You can use the tape counter to mark relative positions on a cassette tape during recording or playback. As the cassette tape moves, the counter advances. Before you play a cassette tape, rewind the cassette tape and press the key labeled TAPE COUNTER to set the counter to 000. USING PAUSE You can temporarily stop the tape by pressing PAUSE while you re recording or playing a cassette tape. Press PAUSE again to resume playing or recording. (ALL-10/3/94)
