Concertmate 1000 (420-4020) Installation Faxback Doc. # 7650 CHOOSING A POWER SOURCE You can power your keyboard from any of these sources: Six D batteries Standard AC power (with an optional AC adapter) Vehicle battery (with an optional DC adapter) USING BATTERIES To power your keyboard from batteries, you need six D batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-550. Follow these steps to install the batteries. 1. Be sure POWER is set to OFF. 2. Press the battery compartment cover's latches in the direction of the arrows and lift off the cover. 3. Put six D batteries in the compartment. The picture next to the compartment shows you which way to line up the + and - ends. 4. Replace the cover. Notes: Fresh alkaline batteries last for about 8 hours. If the keyboard sounds weak or does not work properly, replace the batteries. Replace all six batteries at one time. Do not mix old and new batteries. You cannot power your keyboard from batteries once you connect an AC or DC adapter. Caution: If you do not plan to use the keyboard with batteries for a week or more, remove the batteries. They might leak chemicals that can damage the keyboard's electronic circuits. Any song stored in memory is lost when you remove the power supply. USING AC POWER To power your keyboard from standard AC power, you must use an AC adapter such as Cat. No. 273-1656 (not supplied). Caution: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 800 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the keyboard's DC 9V jack. Using another kind of adapter could seriously damage the keyboard or adapter. 1. Set POWER to OFF. 2. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the keyboard's DC 9V jack. 3. Plug the adapter's AC plug into a standard AC outlet. Note: It is normal for the adapter to become warm after using it for awhile. 4. Always disconnect the adapter when you finish using the keyboard. Caution: To prevent a possible short circuit, always unplug the adapter from the outlet first. USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER To power your keyboard from your vehicle's battery, you must use a DC adapter such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 270-1562 (not supplied). Cautions: You must use a DC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 800 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the keyboard's DC 9V jack. Using another kind of adapter could seriously damage the keyboard or adapter. Use the adapter and keyboard only in vehicles that have a 12-volt, negative-ground electrical system. Most vehicles have this type of system, but if you are unsure about a vehicle, contact the vehicle dealer. Using the adapter and keyboard with any other electrical system could damage the adapter, keyboard, or the vehicle's electrical system. 1. Set POWER to OFF. 2. Connect the adapter's blue barrel plug to the adapter's cord, matching TIP to negative (-). 3. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 9 volts. 4. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the keyboard's DC 9V jack. 5. Plug the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. 6. Always disconnect the adapter when you finish using the keyboard. Caution: To prevent a possible short circuit or damage to the vehicle's electrical system, always unplug the adapter from the cigarette- lighter socket first. (br/all-9/29/94)
