SCP-62 (140-1202) Power Sources Faxback Doc. # 7703 You can power your SCP-62 from internal batteries, a standard AC outlet or your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. USING BATTERY POWER To power the SCP-62 from internal batteries, you need two AA batteries. For the best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. You can also use rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries (Cat. No. 23-125). These batteries and a batter charger (Cat. No. 23-133) are available at your local Radio Shack store. Follow these steps to install batteries. 1. Open the batter compartment cover by pressing it down and sliding it in the direction of the arrow. 2. Insert the batteries into the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked beside the compartment. 3. Close the cover. NOTES: If the BATT indicator dims during operation, or does not light when you turn on the SCP-62, promptly replace both batteries. The SCP-62 has a memory back-up circuit that powers the clock and holds the preset memory settings for up to 10 minutes after you disconnect power or the batteries become weak or die. Use all alkaline batteries or all nickel-cadmium batteries. Do not mix these two types of batteries. Doing so might damage the cassette player. If the SCP-62's power supply is interrupted for more than 10 minutes, the display might lock up and not respond to button presses. If the occurs, re-initialize the SCP-62. This product is capable of using a rechargeable nickel cadmium battery. At the end of the batteries useful life, it must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. USING AC POWER To power the SCP-62 from an AC outlet, you need an AC adapter, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1654. CAUTIONS: You must use an adapter that supplies 3 volts DC power and delivers at least 300 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative and it must have a plug that properly fits the SCP- 62's DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the SCP-62 or the adapter. Be sure you connect the adapter to the SCP-62 before you plug it into the AC outlet, and that you unplug the adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the SCP-62. Otherwise, the unconnected plug might touch a metal object and damage the adapter. Follow these steps to connect the SCP-62 to AC power. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Set the adapter's black-tipped barrel plug to read TIP NEG. 3. Insert the barrel plug into the SCP-62's DC 3V jack. NOTE: Connecting the AC adapter automatically disconnects the internal batteries. 4. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. USING VEHICLE BATTERY POWER To power the SCP-62 from your vehicle's battery power, you need a DC adapter, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 270-1560A. CAUTIONS: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt, negative-ground electrical system. You must use an adapter that supplied 3 volts DC power and delivers at least 300 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and it must have a plug that properly fits the SCP- 62's DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the SCP-62. Be sure you plug the adapter into the SCP-62 before you plug it into the cigarette-lighter socket, and be sure you unplug the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the SCP-62. Otherwise, the unconnected plug might touch a metal object and damage the adapter or your vehicle's electrical system. Follow these steps to power the SCP-62 from your vehicle's battery power. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 3V. 2. Plug the orange-tipped barrel plug into the adapter's cord with the tip set to negative (-). 3. Insert the barrel plug into the SCP-62's DC 3V jack. 4. Plug the other end of the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. (ALL-10/4/94)
