INITIALIZING THE SCP-62 The display might not respond to any button press the first time you supply power to your SCP-62. If this happens or any time the display appears locked up, initialize the SCP-62 by following these steps. CAUTION: Initializing the display resets the clock and erases the memory settings. Do this only when you are certain the SCP-62 is not working properly. 1. Lift open the cassette compartment door. 2. At the programmed time, the buzzer sounds through the earphones/speakers while you listen to the radio or cassette tape. To stop the buzzer, press ALARM STOP/SELECT. If you do not press ALARM STOP/SELECT, the alarm automatically stops after 10 minutes. NOTES: To hear the alarm through speakers or earphones, you must turn the radio on or set the tape player to PLAY. Adjust VOLUME to set the alarm's loudness. If you set the VOLUME to MIN, you cannot hear the alarm. CONNECTING EARPHONES/SPEAKERS Follow these steps to connect the earphones/speakers. 1. Insert the earphones/speaker's 1/8-inch plug into the tape player's PHONES jack. 2. Slowly adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. LISTENING SAFELY To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use earphones. Do not listen at extremely high levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Set the volume to its lowest level before you begin listening. After you put on the earphones, adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level. Do not increase the volume once you have established a comfortable listening level. Over tie, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. TRAFFIC SAFETY Do not wear earphones while operating a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can cause a traffic hazard and is illegal in some areas. Even though some earphones are designed to let you hear outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard. USING THE BELT CLIP To attach the belt clip, align the clip's edges with the guides on the back of the SCP-62 and slide the clip until it locks into place. To remove the clip, pull the belt clip's latch up and slide it off. (ALL-10/4/94)
