CTR-66 (140-1151) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 7738 CONNECTING POWER You can power the recorder from any of three power sources: AC power; Internal batteries; or a 12-volt vehicle battery (with optional adapter. AC POWER Follow these steps to connect the recorder to AC power. 1. Plug the small end of the supplied power cord into the recorder's AC 120-volt jack. 2. Plug the other end of the power cord into a standard AC outlet. WARNING: Do not leave the cord plugged into an AC outlet when it is not connected to the recorder. This is a dangerous shock hazard. Internal Battery Power To use internal battery power, your recorder requires four C batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack's Cat. No. 23-551. 1. To remove the battery compartment cover, press down the tabs and slide the cover in the direction of the arrows. 2. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment, observing polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. NOTES: If the recorder's sound becomes weak or distorted, replace the batteries with fresh ones. If you plan to not use the recorder for a long period of time or if you operate it only with AC power, remove the batteries. If you power the recorder using your vehicle battery or AC power, the internal battery power automatically disconnects. Vehicle Battery You can use your vehicle's 12-volt battery to power the recorder, provided the vehicle has a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. This connection requires a DC adapter that provides 6V DC 300 mA output such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 14-844D. Using a different adapter could damage your recorder and/or adapter. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 6V. 2. Insert the barrel plug into the recorder's DC 6V jack. Plug the other end of the adapter into the he vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. CAUTION: Do not let the adapter's barrel-shaped plug contact any metal part of the vehicle while the adapter is plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket. This can cause a short circuit that might damage the adapter or the vehicle's electrical system. INSERTING A CASSETTE Insert a cassette using these guidelines. 1. Adjust VOLUME to its lowest setting. 2. Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette compartment door. 3. Insert a cassette into the compartment with the cassette's open edge facing the control buttons. The cassette's full reel should be on the left. 4. Close the cassette compartment. CAUTION: Tape slack in a cassette can get caught in the capstan or pinch roller. To avoid this problem, keep your tapes fully wound using a pencil. (ALL-9/30/94)
