SCP-62 (140-1202) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7774 USING THE LOCK SWITCH The LOCK switch disables the keys on the cassette door so you cannot accidentally change the radio operation. To use this feature, slide the switch in the direction of the arrow head. When you want to change the radio's modes, set LOCK to the other position. LISTENING TO THE RADIO Connect the earphones or speakers. Then follow these steps to listen to the radio. 1. Set RADIO/TAPE to RADIO. 2. Press BAND AM/FM to select the band. 3. Turn to a radio station. To use memory tuning, see "Memory Turning." To manually tune to a station, do one of the following: Repeatedly press TUNING + or - until you reach the station you want. Press and hold down TUNING + or - for at least 1 1/2 seconds. The SCP-61 tunes to the next strong station in the selected band. NOTE: The SCP-62 has a built-in AM antenna. Rotate the SCP-62 for the best AM reception. The earphones/speaker cord serves an FM antenna. For best FM reception, be sure you fully extend the cord. 4. To listen to an FM stereo station, set MONO/ST-FM to ST-FM. If the FM stereo reception is noisy, set the switch to MONO. The sound is no longer in stereo, but the reception improves. 5. Adjust VOLUME and set E-BASS (see "Using Extended Bass") to the desired position. To turn off the radio, set RADIO/TAPE to TAPE. MEMORY TUNING You can store up to 10 AM stations and 10 FM stations in the SCP-62's memory so you can quickly turn to your favorite stations. You can let the radio automatically store stations, or you can manually store stations into memory. Automatically Storing Stations To automatically store stations, do the following. 1. Set RADIO/TAPE to RADIO. 2. Press BAND AM/FM to select the band. 3. While you press and hold down BAND AM/FM, press MEMORY. From the lowest band frequency, the SCP-62 searches for 10 stations in the selected band and stores them in memory. Then it plays the last station stored. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to store stations for the other band. Manually Storing Stations Follow these steps to manually program stations into memory. 1. Set RADIO/TAPE to RADIO. 2. Select the desired band by pressing BAND AM/FM. 3. Press TUNING + or - to tune to the station you want to store. 4. Press MEMORY. The memory location indicator flashes on the display. M1 through M5 appears for memory locations 1 through 5. +5 and M1 through M5 appear for memory locations 6 through 10. 5. Press MEMORY again while the memory location indicator flashes. The memory location indicator appears on the display as long as you are tuned into the station. Selecting a Stored Station To select any stored station, select the band. Then press ALARM STOP/SELECT until the desired preset memory indicator appears. Erasing Stored Stations Follow these steps to erase stored stations. 1. Set RADIO/TAPE to RADIO. 2. Select the desired band by pressing BAND AM/FM. 3. Press ALARM STOP/SELECT until the station you want to erase appears on the display. 4. Press and hold MEMORY until the memory indicator disappears. USING EXTENDED BASS Your SCP-62's E-BASS (extended bass) switch lets you increase the bass. During play, set E-BASS to IN to increase bass. Set E-BASS to OUT for normal bass sound. LOADING A CASSETTE TAPE Follow these steps to load a cassette tape. 1. Before loading a cassette tape, take up any slack in the tape by turning the tape's hub with a six-sided pencil. Avoid touching the tape. 2. Pull open the cassette compartment. 3. Insert a pre-recorded cassette tape into the brackets on cassette compartment cover so the cassette's open edge faces out. Then close the cover. PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE Connect earphones or speakers as described in "Connecting Earphones/ Speakers." Then follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Insert a cassette tape. 2. Set RADIO/TAPE to TAPE. 3. Set CrO2/METAL-NORM for the type of tape you are playing. 4. Set DOLBY NR to IN if the tape is Dolby NR encoded. Set the switch to OUT if the tape is not Dolby NR encoded. 5. Press PLAY. The BATT indicator lights and the tape begins to play. 6. Adjust VOLUME and set E-BASS to the desired position. To stop the tape, press STOP. USING FAST-FORWARD AND REWIND To rapidly advance or rewind the tape, press << or >>. The button locks and the tape moves rapidly in the direction of the arrows. Press STOP when you reach the desired passage. If the tape reaches the dn, press STOP to turn off the cassette player. NOTE: To protect the tape mechanism, press STOP to turn off the cassette player << or >>. CHANGING TAPE DIRECTION The cassette player plays both sides of the tape continuously until you press STOP. You can change the tape's direction by pressing DIRECTION. (ALL-10/4/94)
