TV/Boom Box (160-0119) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 7793 POWERING YOUR TV/RADIO/RECORDER You can operate your TV/Radio/Recorder using any of these power sources: Standard household electricity Eight D batteries 12-volt vehicle battery (with optional DC adapter) USING STANDARD AC POWER With the supplied AC power cord, you can use standard household electricity to power your TV/radio/recorder. Connect the AC cord's small plug to the TV/radio/recorder's AC power jack. Insert the other end of the AC cord into a standard household AC outlet. USING BATTERY POWER You can use eight D batteries (not supplied) to power your TV/radio/ recorder. For best results, we recommend that you use Radio Shack alkaline batteries (Cat. No. 23-550). 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pushing the cover's two latches in the direction of the arrows. 2. Insert eight D batteries, observing polarity (+ and -) symbols marked in the battery compartment. CAUTION: Installing the batteries incorrectly can damage your TV/radio/ recorder. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. NOTES: When batteries become weak, the TV picture shrinks. When this happens, replace the batteries. Battery life can vary greatly, depending on how you use your TV/radio/recorder. Batteries last longer with radio operation than with TV or recorder operation. We recommend alkaline batteries for longer battery life. If you do not intend to use your TV/radio/recorder for a week or more, remove the batteries. Never store your TV/radio/recorder with batteries inside. They can leak damaging chemicals. USING YOUR VEHICLE BATTERY POWER You can use a DC adapter (not supplied) to power the TV/radio/recorder from your vehicle's battery if your vehicle has a 12-volt DC, negative ground electrical system. We recommend that you use Radio Shack's DC adapter (Cat. No. 270-1562). NOTE: To operate your TV/radio/recorder from the vehicle's battery, you must disconnect the AC power cord from your system's AC power jack. 1. Set the voltage switch on the DC adapter to 12V. 2. Insert the adapter's small plug into the TV/radio/recorder's DC 12V jack. 3. Plug the other end of the adapter into your vehicle's cigarette- lighter socket. When you connect the DC adapter, the batteries are automatically disconnected (See "Using Battery Power"). CAUTION: Do not let the DC adapter's plug touch any metal part of the vehicle when you plug the adapter into the cigarette-lighter socket. This can result in a harmful short that can damage the adapter or the vehicle's electrical system. To avoid this, we recommend that you plug the adapter into your TV/radio/recorder before plugging it into your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. ANTENNAS The built-in rod antenna usually provides good reception for the FM radio and TV. With VHF reception, extend the antenna to its full length for best reception of channels 2 to 6 (VHF-L). Use the antenna at a shorter length for channels 14-69 (UHF). Usually an outdoor FM antenna is unnecessary. If you need better FM reception, you can use a TV/FM antenna. Connect this type of antenna to the EXT ANT terminal with the external 300-ohm antenna adapter supplied. Check you local Radio Shack store for antennas suitable to your needs. You'll also find many other useful accessories. (ALL-10/10/94)
