VSS-400 (490-2501) Installation Faxback Doc. # 7833 This system includes one camera and the monitor. Before you install the camera and monitor, carefully plan the location for each and plan where you will route the cable that connects the two. Keep in mind the following when planning the installation. This system is designed for indoor use only. Select a location for the camera that provides a clear view of the area you want to monitor, is free from dust, and does not place a light source in direct view. Plan the cable's route so it does not come close to power or telephone lines, transformers, or other electrical equipment that could cause interference or that the system could interfere with. Select locations for both the monitor and camera that stays between 14 and 113 degrees F. The supplied camera-mounting hardware lets you mount the camera on a wood surface. If you plan to mount the camera on a different type of surface, purchase appropriate hardware at your local hardware store. Install the camera away from direct sunlight. Do not install the camera where it will be exposed to high humidity or rain. Use suitable fasteners and techniques to mount the bracket to a wall, ceiling, or other flat surface so it can support at least 10 lbs (4.5 kg). If you must install the camera in an unusual location, consult with a professional installer and use a separate camera cover or housing. MOUNTING THE CAMERA Follow these steps to mount the camera on a wall or ceiling. 1. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the four screws on the base's cover and take apart the base. 2. Using the camera's base as a guide, mark the positions for the two supplied base-mounting screws. 3. Thread the supplied base-mounting screws through the holes in the base. Notes: If necessary, drill a starter hole at each marked location. The supplied screws are appropriate only for solid wood surfaces. If you choose to mount the camera on another surface, you must use a different type of screw. 4. Secure the mounting base to the desired location with the screws. 5. Replace the base's cover and secure it with the four screws you removed in Step 1. 6. Screw the collar assembly onto the base. 7. Screw the camera onto the collar assembly. 8. Position the camera. Tighten the wing nut until the camera is secure. 9. Plug the cable from the camera base into the camera's DIN jack. Repeat these steps to mount additional cameras (Cat. No. 49-2502, available at your local Radio Shack store). CONNECTING THE MONITOR Follow these steps to connect each camera to the monitor. 1. Route the supplied cable from each camera and plug the large DIN connector into the four DIN jacks (CA1 to CA4) on the monitor's back panel. Note: Do not route the cable along side other electrical or telephone wiring. Doing so can interfere with your security system or devices connected to the electrical or telephone wiring. 2. Plug the other end of the cable into the jack on each camera's base. 3. Plug the monitor's power cord into a standard AC outlet. (LB/all-10/21/94)
