CHOOSING AN INSTALLATION LOCATION

For safe and effective operation of your VCP, consider the following when
you choose an installation location:

    Place the VCP away from direct sunlight and head sources such as
    household radiators.

    Avoid placing the VCP in dusty or humid areas.

    Do not block the VCP's top and bottom ventilation holes.  For example,
    do not place the VCP on a carpet.

    Place the VCP on a flat surface away from strong vibrations or
    magnetic fields.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS

There are several ways to connect your VCP.  The following suggestions can
help you make the right connections for your needs:

    If your TV does not have separate audio and video input jacks, use the
    connections under "Connecting a Standard TV."

    If your TV has separate audio and video input jacks, use the
    connections under "Connecting to a TV/Monitor."

    To connect the VCP to your stereo system, use the connections under
    "Connecting to Your Stereo System."  This connection will enable you
    to fully enjoy the superior sound of prerecorded cassettes with Hi-Fi
    audio.

    To connect a VCR to the VCP for copying tapes, use the connections
    under "Dubbing to a VCR."

CONNECTING TO A STANDARD TV

Follow these steps to connect the VCP to a TV that does not have separate
audio and video input jacks.

1.  Disconnect the antenna or cable wire from your TV's VHF antenna
    terminal and connect the wire to the VCP's ANT IN terminal.

NOTES:  If you have a 300-ohm antenna wire, connect the wire to the 300-
        ohm terminals on the supplied 300-to75-ohm adapter.  Then connect
        the adapter's 75-ohm plug to the VCP's ANT IN terminal.

        If there is a VHF/UHF splitter connected to your TV, disconnect
        the antenna wire from the splitter connected to the TV.

        If you have a separate UHF antenna, leave the UHF antenna wire
        connected to the TV.

2.  Connect the VCP's RF OUT terminal to the TV's VHF antenna terminal (or
    the splitter's input terminal), using the supplied 75-ohm coaxial
    cable.

Setting the CHANNEL Switch

A standard TV receives the VCP's signal on Channel 3 or 4.  If possible,
set the VCP's CHANNEL switch (located on the back of the VCP) to a channel
that is not used for regular broadcasts in your area.

NOTE:  The CHANNEL switch does not affect the TV when the VCP is off or
       not playing a tape.

CONNECTING TO A TV/MONITOR

If you have a TV/Monitor with separate audio and video inputs, use the
following connection.  This connection usually results in the best picture
and sound.

NOTE:  Use video-quality shielded cables with phono connectors.  Do not
       use standard audio cable.

Connect the VCP's AUDIO R/L OUT and VIDEO OUT jacks to the TV/monitor's
audio right/left and video input jacks.

Before viewing a tape, set the TV/monitor's video/TV switch to the video
setting.

NOTE:  If your TV has one mono audio input jack, connect it to one of the
       audio cable's plugs and set the L/ST/R/NOR selector to NOR.

CONNECTING TO YOUR STEREO SYSTEM

If you want to connect your current stereo system to the VCP's AUDIO OUT
jacks, connect the VCP's AUDIO R OUT to the right audio input of your
amplifier, and connect the AUDIO L OUT to the left audio input of your
amplifier.  Stereo signals are sent from the VCP's left and right AUDIO
OUT jacks to the stereo system's input jacks.

INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES

The remote control requires two AA batteries (not included).  For longest
battery life, we recommend alkaline batteries (Cat. No. 23-552).

Follow these steps to install the batteries.

1.  Remove the battery compartment cover as shown by pressing the cover in
    the direction of the arrow.

2.  Place the batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity
    symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment.

CAUTIONS:  Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type.

           Always remove old or weak batteries.  They can leak chemicals
           that can damage electronic circuits.

3.  Replace the compartment cover.

CONNECTING POWER

You can power your VCP from standard AC power or from your vehicle's
battery.

Using AC Power

For AC operation, plug the AC power cord into a standard AC outlet.

Using Vehicle Battery Power

The supplied DC power cord lets you power the VCP and a portable TV from
your vehicle's battery.  The TV must have a DC 12-volt jack and the
vehicle must have a 12-volt negative-ground electrical system.  Most
vehicles have this type of system, but if you are unsure, contact your
vehicle's dealer.

The DC power cord has two barrel plugs on one end and a cigarette-lighter
plug on the other end.  Connect one barrel plug on the other end.  Connect
one barrel plug to the VCP's DC 12 V jack and connect the other barrel
plug to the TV's DC 12-volt jack.  Start your vehicle's engine and then
connect the cigarette-lighter plug to the vehicle's cigarette-lighter
socket.

CAUTIONS:  To prevent possible damage to your VCP or vehicle, always
           unplug the DC power cord from the cigarette-lighter socket
           before you remove the plug from the VCP or TV.

           If you leave the VCP connected to the cigarette-lighter socket,
           the VCP continues to draw a small amount of current from the
           battery, even when you turn off the power switch.  Disconnect
           the DC power cord when you have finished using the VCP to
           prevent draining your vehicle's battery.

           Before using AC power, disconnect the DC power cord from the
           cigarette-lighter socket, the VCP, and the TV.
