Model 22 (160-0414) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 7844 Your Model 22 Hi-Fi Video Cassette Player is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the VCP so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the VCP dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids can contain minerals that corrode the electronic circuits. For your VCP's remote control, use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old batteries. They can leak chemicals that damage electronic circuits. Handle the VCP gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage its circuit boards and case and can cause it to work improperly. Use and store the VCP only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, and distort or melt plastic parts. Keep the VCP away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the VCP with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the VCP. Do not spray cleaners or insecticides near the VCP. Such chemicals might damage and discolor the exposed surfaces. Your VCP has ventilation holes to allow heat to dissipate properly. Obstructing these holes or placing your VCP in a confined location can prevent properly ventilation and cause malfunctions. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Read and follow these tips to avoid shock and fire hazard. Do not handle the VCP's power cord with wet hands. When you unplug the VCP's power cord, grasp its plug, not the cord. If you accidentally spill water on the VCP, immediately unplug the power cord and wipe off the VCP. Then let the VCP dry completely. If necessary, see your local Radio Shack store for service. Do not put any object other than a standard VHS video cassette tape into the VCP's cassette compartment. Do not place anything on top of the VCP. HANDLING VIDEO CASSETTES Handle your video cassettes with care to help preserve them and to protect them from damage. Place the video cassettes in their protective boxes and store them in a cool, dry, dust-free environment. Store the cassettes on end, not on their sides. This prevents improper settling of the cassette's spool. Tape can become wound too tightly around the cassette's spools after numerous playings. This can make the cassette improperly load and automatically eject when you load it. On most video cassettes there is a brake-release plunger on the bottom-center of the cassette. Use the tip of a pin or pencil to press the plunger. This loosens the tape. CLEANING THE VIDEO HEADS Dirty video heads can cause the playback picture to become blurred even when the video signal is clear. Use a special video head cleaning kit (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 44-1148) to clean the video heads. If problems persist, contact your local Radio Shack store for assistance. Clean the heads only when picture quality if affected. SERVICING THE VCP There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
