Press STOP to stop fast-forward or rewind, or press PLAY (X2) to begin normal play. Viewing the Picture During Fast-Forward/Rewind You can rapidly advance or reverse the tape using fast-forward or rewind, and then slow the picture temporarily to view it. This is useful for momentarily checking the video content of a tape at any point. While the VCP is stopped, press FAST-F or REWIND to fast-forward or rewind the tape. Then press and hold FAST-F or REWIND. The picture appears at the normal visual search speed. Release FAST-F or REWIND to return to the rapid fast-forward or rewind speed. Press STOP to stop fast-forward or rewind, or press PLAY (X2) to return to normal play. VISUAL SEARCH Visual search lets you view a tape forward or backward at a faster speed than normal. To use visual search, press PLAY (X2) to begin normal play. Then press FAST-F to search forward or REWIND to search backward. NOTES: During visual search, the sound is muted and the picture is a lower quality than during normal playback. Tapes recorded at the EP speed have the best picture during visual search. To search at a faster visual search speed, press FAST-F or REWIND during normal visual search. To return to the normal visual search speed, press FAST-F or REWIND again. Press STOP to stop the visual search or PLAY (X2) to return normal play. DOUBLE-SPEED PLAYBACK You can play tapes recorded at the EP speed at twice the normal speed. To do so, during playback press PLAY (X2). The picture is lower in quality than during normal playback and you do not hear sound. FREEZE-FRAME Freeze-frame lets you stop the tape and view a single frame. To do so press STILL >|< during playback. Press STILL >|< again or press PLAY (X2) to return to normal playback. During freeze-frame, the picture is a lower quality than during normal playback. The picture is best with recordings made at the EP speed. NOTE: If you leave the VCP in the freeze-frame mode for about 5 minutes, the VCP automatically stops. AUTO REPEAT PLAYBACK If you want the VCP to automatically repeat a tape after it ends, press AUTO REPEAT until the indicator above AUTO REPEAT lights. When the tape ends, the VCP completely rewinds the tape and plays it again. The VCP continues to rewind and replay the tape until you press AUTO REPEAT so the AUTO REPEAT indicator turns off, or until you press STOP. TRACKING CONTROL The TRACKING control lets you adjust your VCP for the best picture quality. If the picture quality is poor, press and hold down TRACKING (+) or (-) on the remote control until you get the best picture. PLAYBACK WITH HI-FI STEREO SOUND You can enjoy the Hi-Fi stereo soundtracks on many pre-recorded tapes with your VCP. "VHS Hi-Fi" or "Hi-Fi" printed on the video cassette's label or jacket indicates if the cassette was recorded in Hi-Fi stereo. Hi-Fi stereo sound rivals the audio fidelity and quality of today's digital audio. to fully enjoy the superior sound of Hi-Fi stereo soundtracks, we recommend you connect the audio outputs of the VCP to your home stereo system and set L/ST/R/NOR to ST. Set L/ST/R/NOR as follows for the desired sound: L: The left channel sound is heard from both speakers. ST: The left channel sound is heard from the left speaker and the right channel sound is heard from the right speaker (use this position when the Hi-Fi indicator is on.) R: The right channel sound is heard from both speakers. NOR: Use this position when the Hi-Fi indicator is not on. The player will read the audio information on the mono soundtrack (not stereo), and you do not hear Hi-Fi sound, even if using a Hi-Fi tape. NOTES: If you select ST while playing a prerecorded bilingual audio program, the primary and secondary languages will be head simultaneously. Use L or R to select the desired language. If the VCP is connected to the TV through the 75-ohm coaxial cable (not through the TV's audio/video inputs), stereo soundtracks are head in mono. For stereo or bilingual playback, connect the VCP's AUDIO R/L outputs to your TV or stereo system. There might be a difference in volume between Hi-Fi and normal audio playback. When the tape's tracking is misadjusted, Hi-Fi audio might revert to mono sound. Adjust the tracking control until the Hi-Fi indicator turns on and you hear clear Hi-Fi stereo sound. USING HEADPHONES To connect headphones (not supplied), insert the headphone's 1/8-inch plug into the HEADPHONE jack. Your local Radio Shack store carries a wide selection of headphones. Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. WATCHING BROADCAST TV To watch broadcast TV using the connections shown under "Connecting a Standard TV," press POWER to turn off the VCP or press STOP to stop tape playback. Then tune to the desired station on the TV. The antenna or cable signals pass through the VCP unaffected, as if the antenna or cable wire were connected directly to the TV. DEW PROTECTION SYSTEM Your VCP's dew protection system helps prevent damage caused by moisture on the VCP's tape head. This moisture can form when you move the VCP from a cold area to a warm one. When the system senses moisture on the tape head, the DEW indicator flashes and you cannot operate the VCP. You can begin normal operation only after the moisture evaporates and the indicator turns off. connect the VCP to power and let it warm up for 1 to 2 hours so any moisture evaporates. CAUTION: Do not load a tape while the DEW indicator flashes. Doing so could damage the VCP mechanism. (ALL-10/31/94)
