Set the volume to a low listening level before you proceed with the following instructions. 1. Power - Press. The Power indicators on the dial pointer and volume control light. 2. Function switches - Press FM AUTO or AM as desired. 3. Tuning control - Tune to the desired station on the appropriate dial scale. If you select FM Auto and the FM station is broadcasting in stereo, the red FM Stereo indicator on the dial pointer lights. 4. Volume - Adjust as desired. 5. Graphic Equalizer - Adjust for the desired tone characteristics. The center position "0" provides a "flat" response. 6. Balance - Keep in mid-position unless volume level from the right and left speakers sound unequal at your listening position. In that case, slide the control left or right to restore balance. 7. Headphone Jack - Connect a pair of optional headphones with a 1/8-inch plug to listen privately. The speakers are automatically disconnected. Playing Cassette Tapes (Tape A or Tape B) Note: Make all connections as shown in "installation" before you turn on the system. Set the volume to a low listening level before you proceed with the following instructions. 1. Power - Press. The Power indicators on the dial pointer and volume control light. 2. Function switches - Press TAPE. 3. Pause - Release 4. Stop/Eject - Press. Insert a cassette tape into the holder in the door with the side you wish to play facing you and the exposed tape facing down. Gently close the tape door. 5. Play - Press. The tape begins to play. 6. Adjust the Volume, Balance, and Graphic Equalizer controls as desired. (See "Operating the Radio.") 7. F. Fwd/Rewind - Press to rapidly advance or rewind the tape. Always press the Stop/Eject key before pressing other keys. 8. Pause - Press to momementarily pause the tape. Press again to start the tape. Note: This feature does not operate with F. Fwd or Rewind. 9. Stop/Eject - Press to stop the tape. Press again to remove the cassette. Note: This Auto Stop feature automatically stops the tape mechanism when the cassette has played through one side. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to play the other side of the cassette. 10. Headphone Jack - Connect a pair of optional headphones with a 1/8-inch plug to listen privately. The speakers are automatically disconnected. Continuous Play Operation (Tape B to Tape A) The Continuous Play feature automatically plays one side of Tape B and then one side of Tape A. Note: Make all connections before you turn on the system. Set the volume to a low listening level before you proceed with the following instructions. 1. Power - Press. The Power indicators on the dial pointer and volume control light. 2. Function switches - Press TAPE. 3. Stop/Eject - Press. Insert pre-recorded cassette tapes into (Tape A and the holder in the door with the side to be played Tape B) facing you and the exposed tape facing down. Gently close the tape doors. 4. Pause and Play - Press. (Tape A and Tape B) 5. Pause (Tape B) - Release. Tape B begins to play. Note: Tape A does not operate until Tape B has played through one side. Tape B's Auto Stop feature automatically causes Tape A to begin operating. 6. Adjust the Volume, Balance, and Graphic Equalizer controls as desired. 7. Stop/Eject - Press to stop the tapes. Press again to remove the cassettes. Note: The Auto Stop feature stops the tape mechanisms when the cassette tapes have played through one side. Repeat Steps 3 through 6 to play the other sides of the cassette tapes. 8. Headphone Jack - Connect a pair of optional headphones with a 1/8-inch plug to listen privately. The speakers are automatically disconnected. Note: Set the volume to a low listening level before you proceed with the following instructions. 1. Install an optional CD player, record player or other program source. 2. Power - Press. The Power indicators on the dial pointer and volume control light. 3. Function switches - Press PH/CD/AUX. 4. Operate the optional program source according to its Operating Manual. 5. Volume- Adjust as desired. Note: If your optional program source has its own output volume control, you can match the volume level of the optional program source to the volume level of the system. To do this, switch the system to AM or FM AUTO and adjust the stereo's volume to a comfortable level. Now, set the Function switches to PH/CD/AUX and adjust the optional program source's volume to the same level. All audio sources selected with the Function switches will now be equal in volume level. 6. Adjust the Balance and Graphic Equalizer controls as desired. 7. Headphone Jack - Connect a pair of optional headphones with a 1/8-inch plug to listen privately. The speakers are automatically disconnected. Recording to Cassette Tapes (Tape A) Note: Make all connections before you turn on the system. Set the volume to a low listening level before you proceed with the following instructions. When you record new material on a previously recorded tape, the old recording is automatically erased as the new material is recorded. 1. Power - Press. The Power indicators on the dial pointer and volume control light. 2. Dubbing - Release (out). Recording From the System Note: Make sure microphones are not connected. 3. Function switches - Press AM, FM Auto or PH/CD/AUX depending on the program source you wish to record. Note: To record from cassette tapes, see "Tape Dubbing (Tape B to Tape A)." 4. Operate the radio, an optional record player, CD player or other auxiliary program source as applicable. 5. Tape A Stop/Eject - Press. Insert a blank cassette (or one you want to record over), with the tabs in place, into the holder in the tape door, with the side to be recorded facing you and the exposed tape facing down. Gently close the tape door. 6. Pause - Press. 7. Record - Press. Play automatically engages when you press Record. The Record indicator lights. Notes: You are now ready to record. The Automatic Level Control (ALC) circuit assures the correct recording level. No further adjustments are required. The Volume, Balance, and Graphic Equalizer controls have no effect on the recorded sound. Adjusting these controls only affects the sound you hear through the speakers or optional headphones. 8. Pause - Release. The tape starts to run and you can begin recording. Press to pause the tape during recording to eliminate unwanted passages. 9. Stop/Eject - Press to stop recording. Press again to remove the cassette. Note: The Auto Stop feature automatically stops the tape mechanism when the tape has recorded through one side. Repeat Steps 5-8 to record the other side. Recording With Optional Microphones (Not Included) 10. Function switches - Press TAPE. 11. Connect one optional microphone to each microphone jack. For an individual, hold the microphones three to five inches away. For small groups, hold the microphones four to eight feet away. Note: When you record from microphones, the sound does not come through the speakers or the headphones. 12. Perform Steps 5-9 of "Recording From the System." Note: To prevent accidental erasure of a pre-recorded tape, refer to the illustration in the manual. Break the plastic tabs on the cassette after you make the recording. Each side has its own tab. If you change your mind later, cover each hole with tape. You can then record on the cassette again. Tape Dubbing (Tape B to Tape A) Note: Make all connections before you turn on the system. Set the volume to a low listening level before you proceed with the following instructions. When you record new material on a previously recorded tape, the old recording is automatically erased as the new material is recorded. 1. Power - Press. The Power indicators on the dial pointer and volume control light. 2. Function switches - Press TAPE to monitor recording when dubbing at normal speed. Press AM, FM AUTO or PH/CD/AUX to listen to another program source while dubbing at high speed. Note: If you monitor a tape during high-speed dubbing, the audio plays at a much higher than normal rate. 3. Dubbing - Press. The Dubb indicator lights. 4. Tape Speed - Press to dub at high speed. Release to dub at normal speed. The Hi-Speed indicator lights when dubbing at high speed. 5. Stop/Eject - Press. Insert a blank cassette tape, with the (Tape A) tabs in place, into the holder in the tape door with the side to be recorded facing you and the exposed tape facing down. Gently close the tape door. 6. Pause (Tape A) - Press. 7. Record - Press. Play automatically engages when you press Record. The Record indicator lights. 8. Stop/Eject - Press. Insert a pre-recorded cassette into the (Tape B) holder in the tape door with the side to be played facing you and the exposed tape facing down. Gently close the tape door. 9. Play (Tape B) - Press to Synchro-Start recording. Both tape decks begin to run at the same time. Note: The Volume, Balance, and Graphic Equalizer controls have no effect on the recorded sound. Adjusting these controls only affects the sound you hear through the speakers or optional headphones when monitoring recording. 10. Pause (Tape A) - Press to pause the tape during recording to eliminate unwanted passages. Release to begin recording again. 11. Stop Eject - Press to stop recording. Press again to remove (Tape A) the cassette. Note: The Tape A Auto Stop feature automatically stops the tape mechanism when Tape A has recorded through one side. You can press the Tape B Stop/Eject to stop Tape B So recording can continue from the spot where Tape A turned off. Repeat Steps 5-11 to record on the other side. 12. Stop/Eject - Press to stop playing. Press again to remove the (Tape) cassette. Note: To prevent accidental erasure of a pre-recorded tape, refer to the illustration below. Break the plastic tabs on the cassette after recording. Each side has its own tab. If you change your mind later cover each hole with tape. You can then record on the cassette. (br/all-10/20/94)
