WATCHING A TV PROGRAM

Follow these steps to watch TV.

1.  To turn on the Model 17, press POWER.  The POWER indicator lights.

2.  To select the band, press CHANNEL SELECT until the desired band
    indicator (CATV or TV) appears.

3.  Press CHANNEL /\ or \/ to select the channel.  The channel number
    briefly appears.

4.  If you are using the built-in antenna, extend and rotate it to adjust
    for the best reception.

NOTE:  To improve UHF reception, shorten the telescoping antenna.

5.  Press VOLUME /\ or \/ to adjust the volume.  The volume indicator
    briefly appears.

NOTE:  To adjust the tint, contrast, brightness, or color, see "Picture
       Adjustments."

PLAYING A TAPE

You can play tapes recorded in either the SP or LP mode in the Model 17.

Follow these steps to play a tape.

1.  To turn on the Model 17, press POWER.  The POWER indicator lights.

2.  To select the band, press CHANNEL SELECT until the desired band
    indicator (CATV or TV) appears.

3.  Press CHANNEL /\ or \/ to select the channel.  The channel number
    briefly appears.

4.  If you are using the built-in antenna, extend and rotate it to adjust
    for the best reception.

NOTE:  To improve UHF reception, shorten the telescoping antenna.

5.  Press VOLUME /\ or \/ to adjust the volume.  The volume indicator
    briefly appears.

NOTE:  To adjust the tint, contrast, brightness, or color.

Follow these steps to play a tape.

1.  To turn on the Model 17, press POWER.  The POWER indicator lights.

2.  Load the tape a follows:

    a.  Press EJECT to open the cassette compartment.

    b.  Put the tape in the compartment with its main label facing up and
        spine label facing out.

    c.  Press the cassette compartment closed.

3.  When the tape mechanism is silent, press PLAY.

    The VCR display briefly appears.

4.  Press VOLUME /\ or \/ to adjust the volume.  The volume indicator
    briefly appears.

NOTE:  To adjust tint, contrast, brightness, or color, see "Picture
       Adjustments."

5.  Press STOP to stop the tape.

NOTE:  The tape automatically stops when it reaches the end.

6.  Press REWIND to rewind the tape after you finish playing it.

7.  When the tape mechanism is silent, press EJECT to eject the tape.

RECORDING A TV PROGRAM

Follow these steps to record a TV program.

NOTES:  For the best recordings and to protect the Model 17, use only
        high-grade 8mm tapes.

        Your local Radio Shack store carries a complete line of tapes to
        choose from.

        The Model 17 records at SP (standard play) tape speed.

1.  Be sure the tape's erase-protection window is open.

2.  Press POWER to turn on the Model 17.

3.  Press EJECT to open the cassette compartment.

    Put the tape in the compartment with its main label facing up and
    spine label facing out.  Then press the compartment closed.

4.  Press CHANNEL SELECT to select the band (TV or CATV).  Then press
    CHANNEL /\ or \/ to select the channel.

5.  Slide RECORD to the right.  The RECORD indicator lights and the VCR
    displays briefly appears.

6.  To temporarily stop recording, press PAUSE.  PAUSE lights on the
    display.  Press PAUSE again to continue recording.  PAUSE disappears
    from the display.  (The Model 17 automatically resumes recording after
    it has been in the pause mode for 5 minutes.

7.  To stop recording, press STOP.  When the tape mechanism is silent,
    press EJECT to eject the tape.

8.  To help protect the recording from being erased by another recording,
    close the erase-protection window.
