You need to fully charge the battery pack using the supplied charger before you operate the transceiver. You can charge the battery pack on or off the transceiver. WARNING: Do not operate the transceiver while you charge the battery pack. NOTE: You may purchase a second battery pack so you can use one while you charge the other. Plug the supplied charger's barrel plug into the battery pack's CHARGE jack. 3. Plug the charger into a standard AC outlet. The CHARGE indicator lights. NOTES: It takes about 16 to 18 hours to fully charge the battery pack. For maximum power, use the transceiver until the BATT LOW indicator lights. Then fully recharge the battery pack. CONNECTING THE ANTENNA Your transceiver includes a flexible antenna that is ideal for transmitting and receiving. Before you use the transceiver, screw the antenna into the transceiver's antenna socket. CAUTION: Never try to transmit without the antenna. You might damage the transceiver. NOTE: The transceiver also comes with an adapter that lets you use an antenna with a BNC connector. EXT MIC/SPEAKER JACKS In a noisy area, an external speaker positioned in the right place might provide more comfortable listening. Your local Radio Shack store sells an extension speaker (Cat. No. 21-549) and an amplified communications extension speaker (Cat. No. 21-541) just right for this purpose. For the most efficient operation when you carry the transceiver on your belt, connect a combination speaker/microphone (such as Cat. No. 19-310) to your transceiver and hang the mic/speakers on your collar. Follow these steps to use an external microphone or speaker. 1. Remove the EXT MIC/SPEAKER jack's cover. 2. Plug the external microphone into the transceiver's EXT MIC jack or plug the speaker into the transceiver's SPEAKER jack. (ALL-11/09/94)
