Follow these steps to operate your transceiver.

1.  Rotate VOL toward MAX to turn on the transceiver.  Adjust the volume 
    to a comfortable listening level.

2.  Turn SQ (SQUELCH) toward MAX until the noise stops.  This is the
    threshold setting.  This setting should keep the radio quiet when
    there is no signal present on the channel.

3.  Switch to Channel 1 or 2.

4.  Press PUSH TO TALK to transmit a message.  Speak clearly and directly
    in a normal tone of voice into the front of the transceiver.  The TX
    indicator lights when you transmit.

NOTE:  To monitor a channel before you transmit, press MON to listen.  The
       squelch temporarily opens.  Release MON before you press PUSH TO
       TALK.

You must give your FCC call sign at the conclusion of every communication
exchange or once every 15 minutes during continuous communication.

OPERATION HINTS

The typical transmission and reception range for the transceiver is 1
mile, although the transceiver's range depends on two main things:

    the terrain

    battery condition

Buildings absorb signals, and if the buildings contain metal, they might
completely block signals.  Trees and hills can also black signals. 
However, large bodies of water sometimes increase range considerably.

Use these hints to ensure maximum transmission and reception range:

    Hold the unit firmly in the palm of your hand.

    If you use an optional antenna, fully extend it for best reception.
    Height increases range more than power.

USING THE BELT CLIP

You can attach the transceiver to your belt or waistband to make carrying
more convenient.

Follow these steps to use the belt clip.

1.  Press and hold the belt clip's upper end to open the belt clip's lower
    end.

2.  Slide the belt clip over your belt or waistband.  Release the belt
    clip's upper end.
