Stereo Remote (400-0125B) Installation Faxback Doc. # 8726 Speaker Switch Connecting the Switch Use two-conductor speaker wires to connect the speakers to the screw terminals on the rear of the switch. Be sure to observe proper polarity (+ connected to +, and - connected to -). Most speaker wires are clearly marked with a raised line along one conductor, or have one wire a different color from the other. Cautions: Do not allow stray strands of wire to touch adjacent terminals because a short could damage the amplifier/receiver. Do not use an amplifier/receiver's remote (or B) speaker terminals in addition to the remote switch. Follow these steps to connect the switch to your speakers and your amplifier/receiver. 1. Connect the switch's right and left positive (+, upper) terminals to the right and left speakers' positive (+ or marked) terminals. Then connect the switch's right and left negative (-, lower) terminals to the right and left speakers' negative terminals. Be sure to connect right to right and left to left. 2. Use another pair of two-conductor cables to connect the switch's right and left AMP screw terminals to your amplifier/receiver's right and left speaker output terminals. Notes: If your speakers or amplifier/receiver have only phono jacks, you need cables with phono plugs for connecting to the amplifier/- receiver. Cut off the plug at the other end for connecting to the switch. Remove the insulation from the wire ends and connect them to the switch's screw terminals. Typically, the wires will be color-coded gold and silver. Connect the gold wire to the positive (+) terminals, and the silver to the negative (-). When 8-ohm speakers are connected, the load impedance for the amplifier/receiver is: One Pair 8 ohms Two Pairs 4 ohms Three Pairs 4.5 ohms (br/all-9/20/94)
