Improving Reception in Fringe Areas TIPS FOR IMPROVING RECEPTION For better AM reception, try facing your system in different directions. For better FM reception, fully extend the AC line cord or change its direction to make sure the built-in FM antenna is providing its peak performance. Tuner sections of receivers pick up "interference" from other electrical devices such as fluorescent lights, TV sets, motors, etc. Keep the system far enough away from these sources for best performance. If you hear a humming sound or other interference, try changing the position of the system. Also try plugging the system into a different wall outlet. CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL FM ANTENNA If the antenna built into the AC line cord connected to your system does not give satisfactory performance, try one of these alternate arrangements. Fully extend the AC line cord to make sure the built-in FM antenna is providing peak performance. Disconnect the built-in FM antenna and connect a T-shaped (dipole), indoor or outdoor antenna. If the antenna is marked "300 ohms", connect it across the terminal marked "300 ohms". If the antenna is marked "75 ohms" (coaxial), connect it across terminals marked "75 ohms". Connect the cable's shield to the terminal marked "G" and the inner cable to the center terminal. (LB/all-09/20/94)
