CT-351 (170-1061) System Provider Faxback Doc. # 8869 SETTING THE CELLULAR SYSTEM TYPE Each cellular service area can have two cellular service providers. The two providers are designated as System A and System B. When the telephone is activated, it is programmed with the correct system for the provider you subscribe to. The system for that city is called the home system. You can also have your phone activated in another city. You switch between services by telling the phone which phone number (NAM) to use. The phone automatically sets the home service to the type your provider uses. When you are not in an area where you have subscribed to service, you can still use your phone to make and receive calls. This type of service is called roaming. When you roam, set the phone to operate with the cellular, provider that has a roaming agreement with your home service provider. Since a provider might be System A in one city and System B in another city, you might need to set your phone to use the non home system when you roam to different areas. To set the cellular system type, press MENU. Then press 1 and wait about 3 seconds. The currently set option (see below) appears. Use < or > to scroll through the options. Press STO when the option you want appears on the display. HOME - The telephone only communicates with the same system type (A or B) as your home city carrier. This is the setting you should normally use if you are in your home city's cellular service area. NONHOME - The telephone only communicates with the opposite system type (A or B) as your home city carrier. You might need to use this setting if you are roaming. HOME AREA - The telephone only communicates with the specific cellular services provider you subscribe to and only operates in your home city. Select this setting if you do not want the phone to be able to roam. BOTH SYSTEMS - The telephone tries to communicate with your home city system type first. If it is unable to detect service on that system type, if then tries to communicate with the other system type. Select this setting if you are roaming and do not know which system is active in the area. During normal operation, the AB indicator in the upper left corner of the display shows the current setting: A - Indicates that the phone is using the Type A system. B - Indicates that the phone is using the Type B system. AB - Indicates that the phone is using both systems. Blank - Indicates that you have set the phone to use only the specific cellular service provider you subscribed to, and only in your home area. DUAL NAM OPERATION If you have subscribed to two different cellular services, the phone has two different phone numbers assigned to it. Before you use the phone, or if you travel to a different cellular service area, you need to select which phone number to use. Setting this option also sets the home cellular system type for your phone. To set the phone number, press MENU. Then press 7. Use < or > to display the telephone numbers. Press STO when the number you want appears on the display. (smc-03/03/94)
