Wireless Home (490-2010) Glossary of Terms Faxback Doc. # 8917 Alarm System This alarm system is easy to set up and operate. However, you might want to learn the following terms to help you understand how the system operates. Arm and Disarm-Terms for on and off, when you arm the system, you turn on protection. Disarming the system turns off protection. Away Mode - The armed mode of your system when all sensors are armed. Base - The main control panel for the system. Door/Window Transmitter - The remote component that monitors the connected sensor and sends a signal to the base if the sensor detects a violation. Home Mode - The armed mode of the system when only the perimeter sensors are armed. In this mode, the system bypasses all interior sensors. Interior Sensors - The sensors within the home such as motion detectors and carpet switches. Perimeter Sensors - The outside group of sensors in the system. Normally, this includes all door/window sensors. This system includes a perimeter sensor. Remote Control - The device that lets you arm and disarm the system away from the base. Sensor - The component connected to the door/window transmitter. When the sensor detects a violation, the transmitter signals the base. Smoke Alarm Siren Detector - The device that detects the alarm siren from an existing smoke alarm and then sends a signal to the base. Violation - An alarm condition, such as that caused by an opened door or window, detected by the sensor. Zone - The area protected by a door/window transmitter, a smoke alarm siren detector, or other sensing/transmitting device. (SMC/jlc-03/22/94)
