Wireless Home (490-2010) Using the Learn Mode Faxback Doc. # 8920 Alarm System The procedures in this section teach the alarm system the internal settings of the door/window transmitter, the smoke alarm siren detector, and the remote control. This allows the base to communicate with the components. Note: While in the learn mode, normal operation of the sensors is disabled. UNDERSTANDING ZONES A zone is the area of protection covered by a single door/window transmitter, a smoke alarm siren detector, a motion detector, or other sensing/transmitting device. A zone represents a single location, such as front door, a basement window, or an entire room (protected by motion detector). You can add any combination of up to 16 sensing/transmitting components for wide-range protection. See "Adding Optional Devices." (Faxback Doc. # 8921). ADDING A TRANSMITTER OR SMOKE ALARM SIREN DETECTOR Follow these steps to add a door/window transmitter, smoke alarm siren detector, or other sensing/transmitting device to the system, and assign the devices a zone number. 1. Press LEARN on the base. The LEARN indicator flashes. 2. Enter your personal access code on the base's keypad. The LEARN indicator lights steadily and the indicator for the next unassigned zone flashes. 3. Enter the zone number you want to assign the device to. For example, press 01 to assign the device to Zone 1. 4. Press PANIC/TEST on the door/window transmitter (or TEST on the smoke alarm siren detector). The system stores the device's settings in the selected zone. The indicator for the selected zone lights steadily and a brief tone sounds to confirm the addition of the device. The indicator for the next unassigned zone flashes. 5. Press CANCEL to exit the learn mode. Note: If you change the door/window transmitter's WINDOW/DOOR switch setting after you perform the learn procedure, you must remove the transmitter as described in "Removing a Transmitter or Smoke Alarm Siren Detector"(Faxback Doc. # 8916). Then you must repeat the learn procedure so the base can learn the transmitter's new switch setting). (SMC/jlc-03/22/94)
