Wireless Home (490-2010) Installing the Transmitter Faxback Doc. # 8923 Alarm System PREPARING THE DOOR/WINDOW TRANSMITTER You must install the door/window transmitter's battery before you can use the transmitter. Also, the transmitter has a two-position switch labeled WINDOW/DOOR. The switch setting determines how quickly the alarm responds when the transmitter reports a violation. If you set the switch to WINDOW, the alarm responds instantly. If you set the switch to Door, the alarm waits about 45 seconds before it sounds. This gives you time to disarm the system after you enter the protected door. To set the switch and install the door/window transmitter's battery, follow these steps. 1. Remove the transmitter's battery compartment cover by sliding it off. 2. Set the switch to the desired position. Note: If you plan to use the remote control, set the WINDOW/DOOR switch to WINDOW. 3. Connect the terminals of a standard alkaline 9-volt battery (Cat. No. 23-553) to the connector inside the battery compartment, and place the battery in the compartment. Keep the cover off the battery compartment so you can connect the Sensor to the Door/Window Transmitter. MOUNTING THE DOOR/WINDOW TRANSMITTER For the best protection, mount the door/window transmitter as follows. * Near a door or window that is most likely to be used for a burglary. * In the same as the sensor. * So the wire to the sensor does not exceed 10 feet. To mount the transmitter, drive one of the supplied screws at the desired mounting location, leaving about 1/4 inch of space between the screw head and the wall. Then place the transmitter's keyhole slot over the screw head and carefully pull down on the transmitter to secure it. After you mount the transmitter, be sure you test it as described in "Testing the System" (Faxback Doc. # 8925). Note: You must use additional transmitters to provide coverage for more than one zone.
