Remote Control (490-0796) Installing Control Module Faxback Doc. # 8942 Alarm System SELECT A LOCATION FOR THE CONTROL MODULE Select a location under the dashboard for the control module. Be sure all wires are long enough to reach the control module. Place the control module near the proposed mounting location, but do not mount it until you have made all other connections. Caution: Do not install the control module directly in the path of the heater or air-conditioner vents. PREPARE FOR CONNECTION Remove the screws on the control module's strain relief cover with a Phillips screwdriver. Then, loosen the screws on the strain relief bar. When you connect wires to the control module, thread the wires under the strain relief bar. Inside the control module are 15 terminals, dip switches for security codes, and a socket for the starter disable module. Note: When routing and connecting wires to the control module, avoid sharp edges and moving parts. GROUND THE CONTROL MODULE To ground the control module, do the following: 1. Connect the stripped end of the supplied, unattached black wire to a metal screw attached to the vehicle's frame or fire wall or directly to the battery's negative terminal. 2. Connect the black wire's other end to Terminal 1 in the control module. Note: If you connect the wire to a metal screw, be sure the screw is not insulated from the chassis by a plastic part.
